Italy’s prestigious cup competition, the Coppa Italia, proceeds this week. Juventus have won the trophy a total of 13 times, including four years in a row from 2014-18. However, Gennaro Gattuso’s Napoli will be looking to repeat as champions after knocking off the Old Lady in last year’s final.

Pick 1: Fiorentina vs Inter Milan

Two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum in Serie A will meet in cup play on Wednesday in Florence. Fiorentina has frankly struggled to find any results in league competition this term, currently sitting in the 12th spot. However, there have been some moments of brilliance.

They beat Juventus 3-0 in late December and in their last six games, Cesare Prandelli’s side has lost just once. It certainly seems like Fiorentina are trending upwards heading into this tough clash with Inter. La Viola finds themselves in the last 16 after defeating Udinese 1-0 in the fourth round of the competition.

Antonio Conte’s men will certainly be focused on the Scudetto but since they’re already out of the Champions League as well, Inter won’t look past the possibility of grabbing more hardware. They haven’t won the Coppa Italia since 2011 while losing to eventual champions Napoli in the semifinals last year.

Inter is on a brilliant spell of form right now as well, losing just once in 11 fixtures. However, a 2-2 draw on Sunday with Roma did hurt Nerazzurri’s chances of catching AC Milan in the top spot.

Their lethal duo of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are firing on all cylinders, already combining for 21 goals and six assists this term.

These two clubs actually met in last year’s quarterfinals, with Conte’s squad winning 2-1. Given their torrid form currently, the visitors are a safe bet on Wednesday. But, I do think Fiorentina will give them a run for their money considering they’re starting to play a lot better. A one-goal victory for Inter is in the cards.

Pick: Inter -134

Pick 2: Juventus vs Genoa

Juve’s quest for another Italian cup continues on Wednesday in Turin against Genoa. Andrea Pirlo has endured a difficult start to life as manager of the Serie A giants, currently a whole seven points off the top of the table. But, they did beat league leaders AC Milan last week, which surely helps their quest for another Scudetto.

As for the Coppa Italia, Juventus are the most successful club in the competition. But, they will be hungry to win this trophy once again after tasting defeat to Napoli last season in the final. The hosts head into this fixture fresh off a convincing victory over Sassuolo.

Genoa is coming off a big victory over Bologna on Saturday and will be looking to carry that momentum into Allianz Stadium. However, they’re just two points off the relegation zone and will be focused on remaining in Italy’s top flight.

Nonetheless, Genoa will be seeking an upset. A few weeks ago, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side was handed a 3-1 defeat by Juve. With Cristiano Ronaldo in top form with 15 league goals to his name already, this will be a daunting task ahead for the visitors.

Juventus were handed a bye into the round of 16, but this shouldn’t be a factor. Even with some experienced players in the Genoa squad like Davide Zappacosta, Mattia Destro, and Milan Badelj, I don’t expect Pirlo’s side to have any issues advancing to the last eight and should keep their opponents off the scoresheet. A two-goal victory looks to be a safe bet.

Pick: Juventus -1.5 (-127)

Pick 3: Atalanta vs Cagliari

Atalanta will be looking to continue their impressive form in Thursday’s Coppa Italia clash with Cagliari. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side has found their best lately, losing just once in their last ten competitive appearances. In Atalanta’s last three Serie A matches alone, they’ve bagged a total of 12 goals. Their high-flying attack led by Colombians Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel continues to produce in the final third, netting seven and ten times, respectively.

Atalanta’s backline has also conceded less than a goal per match in their last seven. All-around, this side is playing tremendous football and will certainly have lots of confidence heading into this meeting with Cagliari.

Cagliari hasn’t won since November 25th, a span of nine matches without collecting three points. They barely slipped through to the last 16 after scoring an injury-time winner against Verona in the fourth round. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side has conceded the third-most goals in Serie A this term while scoring a dismal 23 in 17 matches.

There are no fond memories for Cagliari in regards to their last clash with Atalanta. The Bergamo outfit buried them 5-2 at the beginning of the season.

With the hosts in arguably their best form since the 2019/20 campaign, I expect them to take full advantage of Cagliari’s struggles and book their ticket to the quarterfinals in a convincing fashion. A three-goal victory is a safe bet for Atalanta.

Pick: Atalanta -2.5 (+163)
