European Qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup conclude on Monday for teams in Groups C, F and I. Monday’s eight matches will decide the final group standings and most importantly, who will automatically advance to the 2022 World Cup and to the second round of qualifying.

Unfortunately, Monday will also be the end of the road for ten different sides. Conversely, the only team so far that has directly qualified for the 2022 World Cup is Denmark.

Northern Ireland vs Italy Prediction

The first European Qualifier to highlight on Monday is between Northern Ireland and Italy. The match kicks off at 2:45 pm EST at Windsor Park in Belfast.

This match and the next one are so fascinating because Group C is really the only Monday group still wide open for the taking. Since the Italians could not break the deadlock against Switzerland this weekend, the pressure is on against Northern Ireland.

Both Italy and Switzerland have 15 points, but Roberto Mancini’s side do have slight advantage on goal difference, which could take them through to the 2022 World Cup.

Remember, Italy failed to qualify for the last World Cup. After winning the Euros this past summer, it is an understatement that this is a must-win fixture for the Azzurri.

However, since winning the Euros, it has not been smooth sailing for Italy. They have only won two out of six in all competitions, against some difficult competition, to be fair. The Azzurri did play Northern Ireland back in March of last year and won 2-0, thanks to goals  from Domenico Berardi and Ciro Immobile. It will not be easy but I expect them to win by another two-goal advantage.

  • Pick: Italy -1.5 (-135)

Switzerland vs Bulgaria Prediction

Similarly, Switzerland host Bulgaria at the same time at the Swissporarena in Lucerne.

The circumstances for this European Qualifier are the same. Basically, Switzerland know they need to win. Preferably, they need to win by a multi-goal margin in case things end level on points with Italy.

Regardless, Switzerland should feel quite confident given their form over recent months. In five official matches this season, they have won two and drawn three.

More impressively, Murat Yakin’s side has only conceded one goal in that same time span. This is a major credit to Yann Sommer, the Switzerland goalkeeper who is an absolutely top shelf player.

He is supported by Fabian Schar and Manuel Akanji in defense, but Akanji will be a miss in this match due to yellow card accumulation. Granit Xhaka, Steven Zuber and Breel Embolo will also be absent for the Swiss.

To conclude, the last time these two sides played in a European Qualifier Switzerland was able to land on a comfortable 3-1 victory. I think Switzerland will win again, but the match will stay on a narrow score line.

  • Pick: Under 2.5 total goals (+215)

San Marino vs England Prediction

The last European Qualifier to highlight is between San Marino and England at the Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle.

This one is honestly a bit fun, because while England do want to win, there is not much up for grabs here. For England to not automatically qualify, they would have to lose and Poland would have to win by five or more goals.

England will be without Jordan Henderson, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw. In turn, I expect Gareth Southgate to play a massively rotated side, full of young talent.

While England have dropped points against Hungary and Poland they usually do well against these smaller countries. In fact, last year, they beat this San Marino side by a score of 5-0.

Expect the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bakayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and even Conor Gallagher to make appearances on Monday.

As a result, my best bet for this European Qualifier is a prop for Bakayo Sako to score and give an assist. The lad from Hale End has been doing bits the past twelve months and I think he will rip up that San Marino back line.

  • Pick: Saka to score and give an assist (-140)
