Things won’t get any easier for Everton this weekend as they face a red-hot Chelsea squad on Saturday, December 12th, 2020 kick-off 3 PM EST at Goodison Park.

The hosts enjoyed a dream start to the campaign, but in recent memory, they’ve struggled to find results. As for the visitors, they’re looking to continue their impressive form, which saw them bury Leeds United last weekend.

Everton Looking To Find Previous Form

After winning their first four games of the season, Carlo Ancelotti’s side certainly looked like a force to be reckoned with. They were scoring tons of goals and barely conceding. But ever since their 2-2 draw on Matchday five with Merseyside rivals Liverpool, it’s gone completely downhill for the Toffees.

They’ve won just once in their last six appearances, and it was a narrow victory against bottom of the table stranglers Fulham. On a positive note though, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has continued to enjoy a breakout campaign, currently leading the Premier League with 11 goals. He also scored a brace last season against Chelsea.

During their span of negative results, Everton has suffered defeats in their last two home matches against Manchester United and Leeds, respectively. Ancelotti’s squad currently sits in ninth spot with 17 points, just five off their opponents on Saturday.

Last weekend wasn’t necessarily an ideal outcome for the Toffees, playing to a 1-1 draw with Burnley. But, it was a step in the right direction, having lost four of five games prior. They will be feeling confident heading into this Chelsea clash though knowing they have beat the Blues in two straight home fixtures.

Can Anyone Stop Chelsea Right Now?

A busy summer full of transfers looks to be paying off for Frank Lampard’s men. They’re currently just two points off top spot and are on a fantastic run of football. Their last domestic defeat was way back on September 20th to Liverpool after Andreas Christensen was handed a red card just before halftime.

Since Chelsea has found five wins and five draws. They’ve scored 25 goals this term which is just second in England’s top flight to Liverpool while conceding a league-low 11 times. Their defensive issues of the past seem to be figured out for the time being thanks to the newly-formed partnership of Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma, while Ben Chilwell and Reece James have also been solid on the flanks.

Then in Europe, the Blues flew into the Round of 16 with ease after winning their group, which consisted of the current Europa League holders, Sevilla. In the Champions League, Chelsea conceded just two goals in six matches, once again flaunting their strong backline.

Lampard’s side has kept a clean sheet in six of their last eight meetings with Everton, despite their last two away defeats when visiting the Merseyside club. Matchday 11 was a classy performance from the Blues, taking down a gritty Leeds squad in a 3-1 victory. They conceded within the opening minutes when Patrick Bamford netted but, Chelsea responded in fine fashion to take away the full three points.

Team News

For Everton, they will be without Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne once again. The Frenchman had been a wonderful provider for his teammates, already tallying four assists this season.

For the Blues, Hakim Ziyech picked up a small injury last weekend against Leeds, while Callum Hudson-Odoi will also be out. This will most likely give American wonderkid Christian Pulisic the chance to feature in the starting XI out wide after bagging a goal in his last league outing.

Best Bet

Despite Everton’s recent success against the Blues on home turf, I believe the visitors will come out victorious here. They’re riding a high right now, and I don’t see the Toffees stopping them, especially considering how poor they’ve been playing lately.

However, I don’t think it will be a blowout by any means. I’m predicting a slim one-goal win for Chelsea.

Pick: Chelsea (-130)
