The runner-up in last December’s World Cup final gets back into action on Friday. See the odds and our France vs Netherlands prediction for the match here.

The French side defeated by Argentina in Qatar meets the Netherlands in the opening game of Group B in the European Championships qualifying tournament.

France will be captained by striker Kylian Mbappe who scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final and still finished on the losing side – with Argentina winning on penalties.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands will be playing for the first time since its defeat by Argentina in the World Cup quarterfinal.

It has a new coach with Ronald Koeman returning for a second spell in charge.

A virus has hit the Dutch squad with five players sent home; Cody Gakpo, Sven Botman, Matthijs De Ligt, Joey Veerman and Bart Verbruggen which certainly helps in slanting the France vs Netherlands odds in favor of the French.

These odds are affected by the fact that the virus-hit Netherlands lineup will be depleted.

The draw is rated at +280. The game kicks off at Stade de France at 3:45 pm ET.

Over/Under & Spread for France vs Netherlands

France’s veteran goal-getter Karim Benzema has retired from international football.

But that will simply turn the spotlight even more closely on the prolific star Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, France scored 16 times in its seven games at the World Cup.

With that in mind, there are short odds even for there to be three goals in this game.

The first plus-money odds are the +250 offered for there to be at least four goals (Over 3.5).

The Netherlands was accused of being negative at the World Cup under former coach Louis van Gaal. But it scored 10 times in five games.

New coach Koeman has promised a more attacking outlook, making the Over 3.5 odds look attractive.

Against that, the price is +260 for there to be less than one goal in the match (Under 1.5).

Among the spread offers France is rated at +215 to win by at least two goals (Spread -1.5).

A surprise two-goal win by the Netherlands is priced at +900 (Spread -1.5).

France vs Netherlands Preview

Along with Benzema, French goalkeeper Hugo Loris and defender Raphael Varane have retired from the international game.

So coach Didier Deschamps will be blending fresh elements into his team.

Defenders such as Ibrahim Konate and Dayot Upamecano will now come more to the fore.

Mike Maignan will take up Lloris’ role between the sticks.

But striker Mbappe will be the figurehead of the side after becoming only the second man in history to score a World Cup final hat-trick.

The Netherlands side has not undergone such upheaval, apart from the change of coach.

It has been in impressive form, putting together a 19-game unbeaten run before its defeat on penalties by Argentina at the World – which is a draw, technically, anyway.

Meanwhile, France has lost only one of its last 19 Euro qualifiers.

But it did suffer two surprise home defeats in the UEFA Nations League last summer by Denmark and Croatia.

Kylian Mbappe to Score Odds

Naturally enough, Mbappe is the favorite to get on the scoresheet at a generous +130 – or +330 to score first or last.

At just 24 years old, he has scored 36 times in 66 international appearances.

The veteran Frenchman Olivier Giroud is the second favorite to score at +170.

The leading Dutchman in this market is Memphis Depay at +250 to score – or +600 to be on target first or last.

He has fired 43 goals in 86 games for his country.

France vs Netherlands History

France has won five of the last six meetings of these nations.

However, the Netherlands was a 2-0 winner in the most recent encounter in the UEFA Nations League in November 2018.
