As 2020 begins, Lazio continues to chase Inter and Juve in first place. Their Serie A odds have dramatically improved over the last two months, with +5000 odds on November 11th. On December 9th, Simone Inzaghi’s side had +2100 odds to win the Serie A this year, but now they are as low as +1200.

Lazio have been in impressive form this year, beating Juventus last month 3-1, while losing just twice through 16 fixtures. Lazio has also scored a second-best 38 goals this term, just five tallies behind Atalanta, who have netted 43. They have only conceded 16 goals as well, just two more than Inter, who have let in 14 this season.

Lazio Have Been Consistent in All Areas

Lazio currently has the third-best odds in Italy to win the Serie A in 2020, but there is still a substantial gap between them and Juventus, who have -250 odds. Maurizio Sarri’s side will be looking for their ninth straight title, but Lazio and Inter will look to spoil their streak.

Ciro Immobile has been the heartbeat of the Lazio attack this year, bagging a league-best 17 goals while midfielder Luis Alberto has set up a Serie A best 11 goals. The two attackers form an outstanding duo in the final third for Simone Inzaghi and will be instrumental in their fate this term.

Their backline has also been very solid, with keeper Thomas Strakosha picking up five clean sheets this season. Francesco Acerbi has been very consistent at center back, starting all 16 matches this season and playing all 90 minutes in each one.

Lazio currently has 36 points in third place, just one ahead of fourth-place Roma. But their next eight matches are all against sides they should beat, with the exception of a clash with Roma on January 26th which could be a very entertaining fixture.

Juve is Best Bet

Even though Inter Milan and Lazio are playing exceptional football this year, it’s going be a tough task to dethrone Juventus. The amount of class they have in their squad from Cristiano Ronaldo to Matthijs de Ligt is hard to ignore. Sarri’s side have also lost just once this year and that was to Lazio, but a red card late in the second half definitely played a part in the result.

However, I do believe Lazio has all that it takes to compete with Inter Milan for a second-place finish this year. Their solidity throughout their starting eleven is very impressive and they can definitely compete with Antonio Conte’s side for a runner up spot in Italy’s top flight.

As the second half of the campaign proceeds, Juventus should slowly increase a lead over Inter in first place, while Lazio will not be far behind Conte’s squad in third. Inter and Lazio’s February 16th clash at Stadio Olimpico in Rome will prove to be a crucial fixture in the fate of both of their seasons.

As for the Serie A title though, Juventus is the best bet.

Pick: Juventus (-250)
