For once in Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain isn’t way above the pack in France. After a dismal start to the campaign where Thomas Tuchel’s side lost their first two matches, they haven’t been able to claw back to first place. Lille has actually been the class of the division thus far, who welcome PSG to Stad Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday, December 20th for Lille vs PSG, kick-off at 3:00 pm EST.

This is the first time these two sides will lock horns this season, with the visitors securing the full three points on Matchday 21 last term in a 2-0 victory thanks to Neymar’s double.

Lille Looking to Continue Impressive Form

The current league-leaders have been firing on all cylinders this term, losing just once. They’ve bagged 28 goals while conceding just 10, which is currently the lowest in Ligue 1 alongside their Matchday 16 counterparts. It will be short rest for Lille coming into this massive clash though, having played on Wednesday in a 2-0 victory on the road at Dijon.

Christophe Galtier’s men have been receiving goals from numerous different players, currently boasting one of the most well-rounded attacks in France. Veteran striker Burak Yilmaz leads the side with six goals, while Yusuf Yazici and Jonathan Bamba have each netted five times.

Lille haven’t played at home against PSG since November of 2018, which resulted in a defeat. In fact, they immensely struggled against them in general on home turf, losing their last six of eight against the Paris outfit.

However, it’s a much different season. The hosts are proving they’re a legitimate force to be reckoned with this year, evident by their place in the table. They’ve also put together some impressive results in the Europa League, beating AC Milan in the group stages. With the first place on the line, expect Lille to bring their absolute best on Sunday.

Can PSG Overtake Top Spot?

After minimal time off following PSG’s Champions League Final defeat to Bayern Munich, Tuchel’s squad looked iffy in their first two games of the season, losing both. But they quickly figured it out, winning their next eight domestic matches. They’re back on the brink of first place and with a victory on Sunday against Lille, they will move to the top by a small margin.

Their form has taken a small dip again though, currently 2-1-2 in their last five Ligue 1 appearances. They also played on Wednesday, beating a weak side in FC Lorient 2-0. Just days before, Lyon, who sits in third place, beat Paris Saint-Germain in a 1-0 nailbiter.

Nonetheless, last season’s UCL finalists are once again through to the Round of 16 after winning their group in Europe. They’ve scored an eye-popping amount of goals in league play, netting 35 times already. Kylian Mbappe leads the way with 11 goals, while Moise Kean has found a home in Paris with six tallies after a disappointing loan spell with Everton last season.

Having lost two of their last five matches is certainly not like PSG. To put that into perspective, they tasted defeat just twice in their previous 25 games. With four losses on the season thus far, it’s hard to imagine such a quality side will slip up much more.

Best Bet

What we have are the two strongest attacks and backlines going head to head. This profiles to be a very entertaining fixture which could have implications in regards to the title race. PSG usually has an easy road to the top spot, but Lille and Lyon are right in the mix.

The hosts haven’t had much luck against PSG in recent memory. With this being the case and taking into consideration just how well Lille are playing recently, I do think they’re going to put up a respectable fight. Paris needs a victory, but personally, I don’t see either team leaving with three points.

Each side will score a goal and take away a point in a hard-fought draw which shall leave Lille still in first place.

Pick: Draw +275
