  • The Reds will travel to Qatar next week for the FIFA Club World Cup
  • Jurgen Klopp’s side have an automatic berth in the semifinals on Wednesday, December 18th
  • They’re clear favorites in the sportsbooks to take home the trophy

Nestled in between a very busy last couple of weeks for Liverpool, the club will partake in the FIFA Club World Cup next week after winning the Champions League title earlier this year. They have announced a 23-man squad for December 18th’s semifinal in Qatar, and another squad for their League Cup fixture against Aston Villa the day before. The final for the club World Cup will take place on Saturday, December 21st.

By no surprise, the current Premier League leaders are a heavy favorite to win it all in Qatar. There isn’t really any side in this tournament who poses a serious threat to the class of England. Flamengo, who hails from Brazil, could be the only team that could slightly compete with Liverpool after winning the Copa Libertadores, which is the highest competition in South American football. But even they won’t be able to beat the Champions League title holders.

Liverpool enters this tournament as heavy -400 favorites, with Flamengo at +350.

Teams Participating in Club World Cup

There will be a total of seven teams in Qatar for this tournament. Joining the English and Brazilian sides will be Esperance Sportive de Tunis, who hails from Tunisia, Monterrey, who are the CONCACAF Champions League winners from Mexico, Hienghene Sport from New Caledonia, Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia, and the Qatar Champions and host team, Al Sadd.

Liverpool Dominating England

Just 16 matches into the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, the Reds already look to be running away with the title, sitting eight points ahead of the Foxes of Leicester City and a shocking 14 points ahead of the defending PL champions, Manchester City. Liverpool has yet to lose this season in England, drawing just once. Their only defeat this season came against Napoli on Matchday 1 of the Champions League group stages.

Liverpool has scored 40 goals in league play while conceding just 14 this term. Sadio Mane is leading the goal-scoring frenzy with nine tallies, while Mo Salah has contributed seven goals of his own. As noted in the tweet above, the high-flying Reds couldn’t be in better form right now, winning their last 24 of 25 domestic fixtures.

They have had some close matches this year where they won by just one goal, such as their victories over Brighton and Crystal Palace in recent weeks. But what separates Liverpool and most of everyone in England is their ability to finish at the most crucial moments. With a lethal front three of Salah-Firmino-Mane, it’s very difficult for oppositions to stop their electric attack.

Realistically, it won’t be that difficult for Liverpool to win the Club World Cup, considering they only have to play two games and their possible opponents don’t hold a candle to the type of sides they beat on a weekly basis in England. Jurgen Klopp has basically all his main players from Premier League matchdays on the squad traveling to Qatar, plus a few youngsters like Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster.

Flamengo is a Team to Watch

Flamengo could be an intriguing side to watch, winning both the Brazilian Serie A already and the Copa Libertadores. Gabriel Barbosa and Bruno Henrique are two players to keep a close eye on in Qatar. Flamengo’s two forwards scored 26 and 21 goals each this season in 38 appearances. There’s no doubt the Brazilians will be seeking their third major trophy next week, but it’s going to be extremely hard to beat a side of Liverpool’s caliber.

The Reds Are the Best Bet in Qatar

There is little doubt that Liverpool won’t lift the Club World Cup trophy on December 18th given their exhilarating form this season. Premier League football is arguably the best league in the world currently, and the Reds are cruising at the top of the table. These respective sides in Qatar are no competition for the Merseysiders.

Pick: Liverpool (-400)
