New York City FC vs Inter Miami CF Prediction
NYFC’s defense of their MLS title was in danger of fizzling out in the second half of the regular season until they faced Atlas – winners of the Campeón de Campeones from Liga MX – in the Campeones Cup in mid-September. Prior to that game, they had been on a horrible run of just one win in ten but the 2-0 win over their Mexican opponents resurrected their season.
Following their Campeones Cup triumph, Nick Cushing’s men won three MLS games on the spin – their final three of the regular season – and ended up finishing in third place in the Eastern Conference.

Good Home Form for NYCFC
NYCFC have enjoyed some good home form over the regular season – winning 10 games, which is the second-highest in the Eastern – with two of those wins taking place at Citi Field, Queens, where tonight’s game takes place. On the flip side, the last time they played a playoff game there – vs Toronto in 2019 – they lost 2-1.
Over the regular season, NYCFC beat Miami 2-0 at home (in Yankee Stadium), while in Florida they were beaten 3-2.

A Fine Season Finale from Neville’s Men
A mixed campaign for Miami ignited the moment it looked as if their chances of making the playoffs were fading. After a disastrous opening that saw them open with five winless games, they steadied the ship with ten wins in their next 24 but still were around mid-table in the conference as the regular season entered its final stages.
Four wins from their last five games though were enough to earn Phil Neville’s team a playoff place after finishing sixth, albeit they finished only two points clear of eighth-placed Columbus Crew, who missed out.

Better defensive Work Needed From Miami
This is only the second time Miami have made the playoffs – their first was in 2020 when they were knocked out by Nashville at the first hurdle – but to progress further they will need to defend better than they have during the regular season. A goal difference of minus nine and 56 goals conceded is not the record of a team destined to go all the way.

New York City FC vs Inter Miami CF Pick
It’s hard to see past the home win here as, over the course of the campaign, NYCFC have simply proven themselves to be the better side, and have the added incentive of defending their MLS title.
Miami will battle hard but their defensive frailty may leave them exposed and while the straight home win doesn’t look great value, the 2-0 on offer at +650 does look tempting.
Picks: New York City FC to win (-160) / New York City FC to win 2-0 (+650)
