PSG will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table on Sunday, December 12th as they welcome rivals Monaco to the Parc des Princes for a matchday 18 clash. The kick-off is scheduled for 2:45 pm EST.

Paris is currently 11 points clear in top spot but has drawn two straight games in league play. Monaco on the other hand, buried Metz 4-0 last weekend on home soil.

The visitors did the double over PSG last term, however Mauricio Pochettino’s side beat them in the French Cup Final in May.

PSG Looking to Find Domestic Form

The Parisians may be sitting comfortably in first place, but their league results haven’t exactly been stellar as of late. The Ligue 1 giants played to a 1-1 stalemate with Lens on matchday 17 in a rather uninspiring performance. Chances were few and far between for both sides in the first half until Seko Fofana fired Lens ahead early in the second period.

Just minutes later though, Pochettino made four substitutions which proved to be massive, most notably bringing on Kylian Mbappe and Gini Wijnaldum. The Frenchman whipped in a picture-perfect ball at the death which Wijnaldum met emphatically with his head to salvage a point for PSG.

While Paris is winless in two games in France, they did manage to secure a statement victory mid-week in the Champions League, beating Club Brugge 4-1. Mbappe and Lionel Messi were the stars of the show against the Belgian outfit, both netting a brace.

Monaco is a side that has given PSG a ton of problems, which is a cause for concern heading into Sunday’s encounter. The hosts have collected just four wins in 19 home games against their matchday 18 oppositions.

Monaco Enjoying Solid Run

Les Monegasques are currently sitting a whole 16 points off PSG in seventh place, however, they’re starting to string together some decent results. Niko Kovac’s men are unbeaten in eight matches and have registered back-to-back wins against Anger and most recently, Metz.

Monaco’s attack was firing on all cylinders last Sunday, with four different players putting their name on the scoresheet. Sofiane Diop and Kevin Holland put the side two goals to the good in the first 45, while Gelson Martins and Wissam Ben Yedder sealed the deal with second-half strikes. The Monaco backline, who have only conceded 20 times this term, also put forward a tremendous showing, allowing zero shots on target.

Depending on outcomes elsewhere, a victory on Sunday could potentially move Monaco into the top-four. They were absolutely clinical against PSG in 2020/21, scoring four goals and keeping two clean sheets. Kovac’s group also just finished atop Group B in the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz on Thursday, going 3-3-0 in the process and just edging out Real Sociedad for first place.

PSG vs Monaco Prediction

While Monaco is evidently in better form in Ligue 1, I must side with PSG here. They’re 7-1-0 at the Parc des Princes this term and the visitors have managed to win only three of their eight away games in 2021/22. However, the moneyline isn’t going to offer a ton of value. That being said, Monaco is going to put up a respectable fight, with one moment of brilliance proving to be the difference-maker for Pochettino’s squad.

Pick: PSG to Win by 1 Goal (+215)
