After a thrilling two days of Premier League action, Sunday’s meeting between Tottenham and Manchester City will take center stage in North London. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:30 AM EST.

Harry Kane’s status is up in the air for Sunday. Coincidentally enough, Man City is the side vying for his services, with another bid of well over $100 million incoming next week.

Last term, City and Tottenham both won one game apiece. However, the EPL title-holders did beat Spurs in League Cup final as well.

Will Kane Start For Spurs?

It’s been non-stop drama all summer in North London ever since Kane said he wanted out of North London. He’s just returned to training recently with Spurs and manager Nuno Espirito Santo hasn’t yet committed to his talisman playing in Sunday’s opener.

Obviously, having the England captain on the pitch will be a huge boost for Tottenham after he led the top flight in goals and assists in 2020/21. But, the squad will be focused on getting a result, with or without Kane. The preseason was solid for the Lilywhites, going unbeaten in five matches. They played to a 2-2 draw with Chelsea, while also beating Arsenal in their final tune-up fixture.

Although it’s still unknown if Kane will ultimately take his talents to the Etihad before the transfer window closes on September 1st, Tottenham did add a key piece this summer. With Toby Alderweireld departing for Qatar, the club went out and signed Serie A’s reigning Defender of the Year and former Atalanta mainstay, center-back Cristian Romero. The young Argentinian should have no problems instantly fitting into Santo’s plans at the back, but he could miss out here due to a small injury.

Spurs have typically played very well against City on home soil, winning their last three meetings in North London. On top of that, Tottenham has never tasted defeat in an opening day fixture against the Citizens in three previous clashes. Needless to say, the hosts have all the reason to feel confident ahead of Sunday’s encounter.

De Bruyne Doubtful For City

Pep Guardiola could be without playmaker Kevin De Bruyne for the Premier League opener due to an ankle injury that he sustained at Euro 2020. The Belgian has yet to fully return to training. To pile on the bad news, Phil Foden is set to be out for up to a month after hurting his foot at the Euros as well.

While City will be without two of their main figures in the final third, the signing of Jack Grealish should prove to be key on Sunday. The former Aston Villa man joined the club on a record-breaking deal just days before the Community Shield last week. He made his debut as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City.

Following this Spurs clash, the Citizens will have back-to-back home matches with Norwich City and Arsenal, where De Bruyne should certainly be available. Going to North London hasn’t been kind to Man City, losing a total of 16 times to Tottenham on the road.

With two of their best attackers unavailable, Guardiola will be looking to the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Ferran Torres, and Grealish to all make an impact at some point and help the side grab a crucial three points from the get-go.

Tottenham vs Man City Prediction

Despite City being the current champions, Tottenham has enjoyed success against them. Guardiola is also missing some important players and his side rarely gets off to a smashing start at the beginning of a new campaign.

With that being said, I think there’s value in a draw here. Spurs looked good in preseason and usually show up on home soil. With fans back in North London as well, it’s going to help the hosts grab a respectable result.

Pick: Draw +310
