UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying Matchday 10 Odds & Best Bets: Sunday, November 17

The qualification phase for Euro 2020 will wrap up over the next few days and 11 nations have now booked their tickets to next year’s competition. Those teams include Belgium, Czech Republic, England, France, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine and Finland.

With still plenty to play for on Sunday’s Matchday 10, we break down some of the best bets to make this weekend.

There’s still plenty on the line in Group B qualifying when Serbia entertain Ukraine on Matchday 10. However, it will all be on the line for Serbs, with Ukraine having already secured first place in the group by virtue of holding a five-point lead over second-place Portugal heading into the day.

And it will be the Portuguese, whom Ljubiša Tumbaković’s side will be hoping to leapfrog for the coveted final qualification spot for Euro 2020 in the group.

Portugal were impressive 6-0 winners over Lithuania on Thursday, giving them 14 points, one more than third-place Serbia with 13. The Eagles were victorious themselves on Thursday, with a 3-2 home win over Luxembourg. Despite taking a 2-0 lead to the half behind a brace from Aleksandar Mitrović, the Eagles were forced to hang on in the final quarter-hour after Luxembourg pulled within one in the 75th minute.

Their opponents Ukraine will be no easy task, given Andriy Shevchenko’s side is one of just four undefeated teams during the group stage. Ukraine has scored 15 goals while conceding just twice, compared to the 15 goals both scored and conceded by Serbia.

In the reverse of this fixture, Ukraine ran out as massive 5-0 winners in L’viv.

Yet outside of that result, the Eagles have been competitive in all matches having scored in each of the other six matches, with multiple goals in five. Overall, Serbian qualifiers have seen both teams scoring in six of seven. Outside of a 1-1 draw with Portugal, goal totals have seen five, five, six, four, three and five thereafter.

History will not be on the side of Serbia, as in addition to their earlier 5-0 defeat, they’ve also gone 0-4 while being outscored 7-1 in four all-time friendlies with Ukraine.

No matter the result in this match, Serbia’s fate will come down to the result in Luxembourg, where Portugal will conclude their qualification phase. Considering the Portuguese have already defeated Les Lions Rouges 3-0 earlier this year, the odds won’t be in Serbia’s favor to be continuing their Euro 2020 journey past this weekend.

However, with 14 goals allowed in seven matches, Luxembourg have not been getting run off the pitch. In fact, they were just 2-1 and 1-0 losers to group leaders Ukraine. Meaning Serbia will come out in full force while hoping the tiny nation of Luxembourg can pull a surprise result against Portugal.

France’s Group H destiny is finally in their own hands after the most narrow of 2-1 victories over Moldova on Thursday. While the French were always expected to advance from and likely win the group, they’ve been pushed to the brink to claim first place by Turkey. The Turks, had up until Thursday’s draw with Iceland, been controlling first place in the group with a draw and victory over the French.

And while the single point was enough to clinch qualification for Turkey to Euro 2020, they did relinquish top spot in the group by virtue of France’s win. However, France was anything but straightforward winners, actually conceding first in the 9th-minute and needing a 79th-minute penalty from Olivier Giroud to ensure victory.

France have looked less than dominating through qualifying and managed to concede to the Moldovans in each match, giving Moldova two of their only three goals. On the road, France also lost to Turkey 2-0.

Against Albania, they could face a team playing freely, already knocked out of contention for a top-two spot.

Albania played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with lowly Andorra on Thursday, in a match where all four goals were scored in the opening hour. Albania has now scored ten goals across their past four qualifiers.

France were 4-1 winners in Paris earlier this year, with Albania’s lone goal coming through a 90th-minute penalty.

A France win looks an easy bet, yet offers little value. With their recent struggle in Moldova, backing a multi-goal win on the road would also give me some concern.

Yet with Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann in their ranks, the French surely will find the scoresheet. Especially when knowing a win will be needed with Turkey likely to defeat Andorra. With the Eagles also capable of contributing, I’ll go the safer route and simply bet “Over” the total.

Kosovo vs England Odds

When these two sides met earlier during Group A qualifiers, fans were greeted with a 5-3 thriller in Southampton. Kosovo found the back of the net just one minute into play. But England responded with five-straight goals in the first half to take a 5-1 lead into the break.

While things looked done and dusted at that point, Kosovo responded with goals in the 49′ and 55′ minutes to make for an exciting finish.

There’s little reason to think England won’t be capable of another multi-goal outburst on Sunday, especially after their 7-0 dismantling of Montenegro on Thursday. In truth, the score was likely flattering to the Montenegrins, considering England led 5-0 just 37 minutes in. With goals in the 18′, 24′ and 37′ minutes, captain Harry Kane recorded a hat-trick in what was England’s 1,000 club match. He was then subbed off near the hour-mark.

England have already sealed top spot in Group A, while Kosovo’s 2-1 loss to the Czech Republic on Thursday, means their only route to qualification will be through earning one of four playoff spots.

With some of the luster taken off the match and manager Gareth Southgate expected to make some rotations, we may not see another eight-goal thriller. However, Raheem Sterling could be in the lineup after being dropped on Thursday after an altercation with teammate Joe Gomez.

England should still have enough to cover the spread, but that said, on the road, with a rotated squad, Kosovo are certainly capable of contributing to the scoresheet.
