Veronika Kudermetova Betting Analysis

Kudermetova will already be in Forth Worth for the doubles draw of the WTA Finals, as her teammate Elise Mertens qualified earlier this month.

The world number 12 has breezed through her first two matches in Mexico, dropping both Jelena Ostapenko and Donna Vekic in straight sets.

Kudermetova took down Ostapenko in the round of 16, avenging a loss to the Latvian in their only previous meeting. She blasted 11 aces en route to winning 68% of her total service points, while only giving up one break.

The win improves her season-long record to 39-19, and she’s through to the quarters for a third consecutive tournament, and for the 11th time overall in 2022.

She’s yet to win a singles tournament this season, with her lone singles title coming last year in Charleston.

Maria Sakkari Betting Analysis

Sakkari meanwhile, had a little more trouble in her round of 16 match. She needed to rally versus American Danielle Collins after dropping the first set but rebounded nicely to take the final two sets comfortably.

Sakkari isn’t nearly as dominant with her serve as Kudermetova and relies much more heavily on her return game. She broke Collins five times in their match, while the Greek has converted on 42.7% of her break point chances this year.

She had a far easier time in her opening round match, knocking off Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine in straight sets. Sakkari converted 44% of her break point opportunities, and while she struggled to finish out her service games quickly, she did save 11 of 13 break points.

Like Kudermetova, Sakkari is still looking for her first title of 2022. Her lone singles triumph came back in 2019 in Rabat, while Friday will mark her seventh quarterfinal appearance this year.

Kudermetova vs Sakkari Prediction

Sakkari owns a 2-1 lifetime record versus Kudermetova, with their most recent meeting going her way at this year’s Australian Open.

Recent form, however, drastically favors the Russian. Kudermetova is fresh off back-to-back semifinal appearances, making it to the final four in four of her past eight tournaments overall. She’s beaten four top-15 players in the world over that stretch, moving up eight spots in the world rankings.

Sakkari on the other hand is through to the quarters for just the second time since mid-June. She failed to make it out of the round of 32 in four of her previous five tournaments, with the lone exception being a 250 series event versus some pretty mediocre competition.

Pick: Veronika Kudermetova -2.5 (-120)
