Daniil Medvedev, on the other hand, has been able to move his way up in the odds, invading on the big three, and sharing +800 odds with Roger Federer.

For many years now, men’s tennis has been dominated by the big three of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. But what we’ve already seen on the female side is starting to happen to the men’s side, where up and coming young tennis phenoms are starting to breakthrough. These players are starting to beat the big three in matches, sometimes even knocking them out of the tournament.
The Next Generation
Going into 2020, Roger Federer has addressed what is happening. He believes that in 2020 the tennis world will see a Grand Slam Champion that isn’t himself, Nadal, or Djokovic. The younger generation was having a bit of a tough time breaking through in big tournaments like the Grand Slams. But this year, Daniil Medvedev had a very strong performance against Rafa in the US Open Final, which changed the conversations.

Medvedev took Nadal to five sets, eventually losing, but not before leaving his mark. Fast forward to the ATP Finals just this past month, and it was the young guns who took over the tournament. Going into the 2020 Australian Open, Medvedev sees his odds at +800. Earlier in 2019 he was listed at +6600.

Stefanos Tsitsipas who didn’t even compete in the ATP Finals last year, because he was competing in the ATP Next Gen tournament, took home the trophy at 21-years old, beating both Federer and Nadal in the process.
2020 Australian Open Best Bet
Going into the tournament, it’s hard to bet against Novak Djokovic. He’s the defending champ, and despite the young guys coming through, as mentioned earlier, they haven’t found a way to crack the Grand Slams just yet. Maybe 2020 will be the year the next generation wins a Grand Slam as Federer said. But right now Djoker is the best bet, no question.
His +135 odds are much shorter than everyone else. Nadal is the closest behind him at +300. He’s the defending champion and holds the record for the most men’s singles titles at the tournament.
Best Bet: Novak Djokovic +135
