Nadal Playing for Pride

The 36-year old opened his tournament up against American Taylor Fritz, and was unable to steal a set from him. After the first set went to tiebreak, Fritz just took complete control and Nadal wasn’t able to catch up. He went onto lose 6(3)-7(7), 1-6.

In his second match he went up against the young Canadian superstand Felix Auger-Aliassime, and wasn’t able to find him momentum. Auger-Aliassime was playing very tight, clean tennis, and managed to break Nadal’s serve to go up early in the match. Weirdly, it was Nadal’s serve that was costing him a lot of points, and he wasn’t able to figure it out.

Nadal went onto lose 3-6, 4-6, and with the lose, he is out of the final four.

Ruud Continues On

Unlike his opponent, the 23-year old has made the final four in the tournament. He opened up his tournament against Felix Auger-Aliassime where he won 7(7)-6(4), 6-4, and then took on Taylor Fritz.

Ruud started off strong against Fritz, jumping out to a strong lead, but the two went back-to-back exchanging points. The match took three sets to settled, but Ruud managed to squeeze the win, while hitting 14 aces and just three double faults. Impressively, his opponent actually managed 15 aces to no double faults, but Ruud outplayed him in other parts of the match. Ruud went onto win 6-3, 4-6, 7(8)-6(6).

Second Career Meeting

This will be the second career meeting and second meeting of the year for Nadal and Ruud. The two’s only other matchup happened in the finals of the French Open this year, where Nadal won and captured his 14th French Open title.

Nadal vs Ruud Pick

With Ruud securing a spot in the last four of the tournament, and Nadal being done, the Norwegian has a bit more to play for. He’ll look to keep his form topnotch, while Nadal is just trying to end the year on a good note.

But truly Ruud is playing some of his best tennis, and Nadal hasn’t looked like he’s even come close to his this week.

Because of circumstance and momentum, look for Ruud to take this match and even out their head-to-head. But don’t be surprised if Nadal takes a set.

Best Bet: Casper Ruud 2-1 (+250); Over 2.5 sets (+115)
