Djokovic won his second French Open title in six years in 2021. In between his 2016 and 2021 wins, Nadal had won in four straight years. From 2010 onwards, this competition has been dominated by those two with only Wawrinka breaking up that dominance in 2015.

French Open Men’s Singles Championships By Country

France has the most French Open Men’s Singles Championships with 38. But France hasn’t claimed top honors lately. The last homegrown French Open title-holder was Yannick Noah, who won it all in 1983.

  • [6/2/22] It’s Swiatek vs Gauff in the finals, where Swiatek is a massive -650 favorite to win
  • [6/1/22] Just last week Martina Trevisan still had +10000 odds to win the French. Now, she’s into the semifinals and is listed at +2200, albeit still as the biggest longshot of the final four
  • [5/30/22] Favorite Swiatek survived a scare in dropping her first set in the round of 16 to Quinwen Zheng to win 2-1 and advance to the quarters. She’s now down to -334 to win in Paris
  • [5/24/22] Second-favorite Ons Jabeur is eliminated, and Swiatek’s odds have now shortened to -175
  • [5/20/22] Iga Swiatek is a huge favorite to win the French after the draw at -110 odds. Those odds may not look really short, but when you consider the second-favorite, Ons Jabeuer only has odds of +1200, Swiatek is clearly considered the top choice
  • [5/9/22] After winning the Madrid Open, Ons Jabeur is rocketing up the oddsboard to +1800
  • [4/5/22] Swiatek’s odds continue to shorten after winning the Miami Open, and with the retirement of Ashleigh Barty, Swiatek is down to +250
  • [3/21/22] Swiatek is now ranked No. 2 in the WTA rankings after winning Indian Wells. She and Barty are still the top favorites for the French Open
  • [1/31/22] Ashleigh Barty won the Aussie Open and her odds have shortened from +800 to +450, making her level with Iga Swiatek as the co-favorites
  • [12/16/21] Last year’s winner Barbora Krejcikova has early odds of +1220. Iga Swiatek is the top favorite at +450

Odds for Recent Women’s Singles Winners

The French Open continues to see new winners on the women’s side each year. That’s now been the case in each of the past six years. A new winner and a winner from a different country have won each of those years. In 2021 it was Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic. 2020’s winner, Iga Swiatek from Poland enters 2022 as the top favorite.

When it comes to all-time French Open titles, the honor goes to Chris Evert who won seven times from 1974-1986.

On the women’s side, it is again France where the majority of winners have come from all-time. A French winner has won 30 times, but the last French player to win was Mary Pierce in 2000.
