The best way of predicting the future is to look back at the past. Here are some interesting trends to consider before making a wager:
- Western Conference teams have won nine of the last 10 WNBA championships
- Only three Eastern Conference teams have won the WNBA Championship since 1997
- The no. 1 seed has reached the WNBA Finals in each of the last three years, winning twice
- Only once has a team with a sub-500 record reached the WNBA Finals

Seattle opened with the shortest odds in the West, but were dealt a devastating blow after Finals MVP Breanna Stewart ruptured her Achilles tendon while playing in the 2019 EuroLeague title game in April. Adding injury to insult, 11-time All-Star Sue Bird was also ruled out for the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove debris from her left knee.
