Packers’ Super Bowl Odds Improve to +260 After Beating Rams in Divisional Round

• The Pack was given a betting line of +400 to win the Super Bowl entering the NFL Divisional Round playoffs

Oddsmakers are favoring the Green Bay Packers to go one game further than they did last season. When it comes to winning the Super Bowl, the Pack is still backing up behind the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Green Bay is being given a betting line of +260 in the Super Bowl odds. Only the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs (+200) are offered better odds to win the big game.

Green Bay was listed at +400 entering the NFL Divisional Round playoffs. At the start of postseason play, the Packers were actually at shorter average odds (+383) to take the Super Bowl.

Slamming the Rams

Green Bay put up 32 points on the Los Angeles Rams, the NFL’s #1 defense, in winning their NFL Divisional Round game 32-18 at Lambeau Field. The Rams permitted an NFL-low 18.5 points per game during regular season play.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers handled LA’s #1 pass defense for 296 yards and two touchdowns through the air. When the Rams closed to within 25-18 and were threatening to make a game of it, Rodgers’ connection with receiver Allen Lazard led to a 58-yard TD pass.

Keeping the Rams at bay Green Bay was showing them a variety of offensive formations and confusing them with plenty of motion. Establishing a fast-paced tempo, the Packers were able to keep the Rams on the back foot and reacting instead of initiating.

The Packers were also able to rush for 188 yards. Aaron Jones was the man pacing the ground game, clicking for 99 yards.

Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was limited by a rib injury. Holding him in check was Packers’ left guard Elgton Jenkins, a 2020 Pro Bowler. He prevented Donald from causing any disruption in the Green Bay backfield.

Defense Doesn’t Rest

While the Green Bay offense was drawing the headlines, save a few kudos for the Packers defense. They were the ones stifling Rams running back Cam Akers on 90 yards.

That was just over half of the 177 yards he ended up churning out last week in their Wild Card win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Packers finished up with four sacks of Rams QB Jared Goff. Kenny Clark was the one leading the way with 1.5 sacks.

Going A Bit Further

The Packers lost 27-20 to the San Francisco 49ers in last season’s NFC Championship Game. In fact, they’ve ended up losing in their last three trips to the NFC title game.

This will be the Pack’s first time playing at home for all the marbles in the NFC since the 2007-08 season. They also lost that one, 23-20 to the New York Giants.

Green Bay’s recent history against its two potential NFC Championship Game opponents is also poor. The Packers were 4-0 this season when they were whipped 38-10 at Tampa Bay.

Against the NFL’s #1 defense, the Packers just scored 32 points and had 484 total yards, 94 more than LA had allowed in any game.

They scored on each of their first five drives.

They did not turn the football over.

They did not allow a sack.

They punted twice.

They’ve lost two of three to the New Orleans Saints, including the most recent meeting at Lambeau Field.

Still, though they may not be the Super Bowl favorite, Green Bay is the NFC team with the best chance to win. They were a better play at +400, but +260 remains a solid price.
