  • The Dallas Stars are -120 home favorites over the Minnesota Wild in an NHL game scheduled for Monday, December 20
  • Dallas is 1-5 over the past six games
  • Minnesota has lost three straight on a current six-game road trip – see who we like below

It will be Minnesota current at Minnesota classic as the Minnesota Wild travel to Dallas to face the Stars on Monday. Dallas gained an NHL team when the Minnesota North Stars relocated to Texas in 1993.

Neither of these teams will be taking the ice on Monday on the edge of sharpness. Completing a six-game road trip, the Wild are 0-2-1 over the past three games following a 2-0 start. The Stars are a dismal 1-5 straight up in their last six games.

Oddsmakers are opting to play the home-ice advantage. It’s the Stars who are being set as the -120 favorites. Dallas is a solid 10-3-1 straight up at home this season.

Wild vs Stars Injury Report

There was a scary moment in Saturday’s Stars-Blackhawks game. Dallas forward Tanner Kero left the ice on a stretcher after absorbing a hit from Chicago’s Brett Connolly, who was assessed an interference major and game misconduct. Kero is out with a suspected concussion.

Dallas forward Joel Kiviranta is on IR with an upper-body injury. For Minnesota, defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower-body injury) is out and forward Jordan Greenway (undisclosed) is listed as questionable.

Dallas Goaltending In Holtby’s Hands

A chronic knee ailment has ended Ben Bishop’s career. Anton Khudobin, the Dallas Stanley Cup hero in 2020, is in the minor leagues. Suddenly, the Stars’ goaltending duties belong to veteran Braden Holtby.

With his third team in three years, former Vezina Trophy and Stanley Cup winner Holtby is providing stellar netminding to the Stars, even if his win-lost record isn’t suggesting that to be so. He’s lost his last three decisions but posted a .912 save percentage over that span.

Wild vs Stars Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Wild Cam Talbot 15-6-1 .919 2.67
Stars Braden Holtby 5-7-1 .922 2.44

Minnesota’s Talbot is sharing the NHL lead with 15 wins. That’s the most wins he’s posted through his first 21 starts in Talbot’s career.

Over his last eight starts, Talbot is showing a .939 save percentage. He’s 6-1-1 over his last eight decisions.

Wild vs Stars Pick and Prediction

The Wild have won four in a row from the Stars since ending a Dallas five-game win streak against Minnesota. However, Minny is 1-3 SU in its last four visits to Dallas.

Still, the Wild figure to be well-rested. They haven’t played since Thursday. Their game against Florida was postponed, as is Tuesday’s home date against Detroit. They can go all out to win this one.
