  • I’ve made my Flyers vs Rangers prediction for Thursday’s matchup at Madison Square Garden
  • New York is 2-11-1 since a Jan. 2 Winter Classic win, and has been shut out at home seven times this season
  • Keep reading for my Flyers vs Rangers picks, odds, and head-to-head history

The Philadelphia Flyers (25-21-11) visit the New York Rangers (22-29-6) on Thursday night in an all-Metropolitan Division clash at Madison Square Garden. Both teams are limping into this one. The Flyers have dropped six of seven (1-4-2), while the Rangers enter play losers of four straight and seven of their last eight in regulation.

Philadelphia is on the second half of a back-to-back after falling 3-1 in Washington on Wednesday. New York, meanwhile, hasn’t played since a 2-0 shutout loss to Carolina on Feb. 5, their seventh home shutout of the season.

Puck drop is set for 8 pm ET on ESPN.

Here are my Flyers vs Rangers picks, along with the latest odds and head-to-head breakdown.

Flyers vs Rangers Prediction

Neither of these teams can keep the puck out of the net, and I expect that to continue Thursday night at The Garden.

The Rangers have allowed at least six goals in 10 of their last 12 games, and that problem isn’t getting fixed anytime soon with Igor Shesterkin still sidelined with a lower-body injury. Jonathan Quick has been admirable filling in, making 41 saves in that shutout loss to Carolina — but he’s still carrying a 3.10 GAA and .890 save percentage in 20 starts this year.

On the other end, Samuel Ersson has been brutal. The Flyers’ likely starter owns an .856 save percentage and 3.51 GAA through 24 appearances. He’s allowed at least three goals in six of his last seven starts.

Samuel Ersson vs Jonathan Quick Stats

3.51GAA3.10
.856SV%.890

The road trends for Philadelphia are hard to ignore on the total. Nine of the Flyers’ last 10 road games, excluding Wednesday’s loss, produced at least six goals. And on New York’s side, the over has cashed in seven of the Rangers’ last 10 games overall.

Both team save percentages are ugly, too. Philly sits at .877 on the season and the Rangers at .890. This has shootout written all over it.

Flyers vs Rangers Picks

Travis Konecny Over 0.5 assists (+105 at Bet365)

Konecny leads the Flyers with 22 goals and 54 points in 56 games and has been their most consistent playmaker lately. He has four assists in his last five games and eight in his last 13.

The matchup history backs this up. Konecny has three assists in the last four meetings with the Blueshirts, including two in the last three at Madison Square Garden. He hasn’t had a three-game pointless streak since late November, and I like the plus-money value here.

Alexis Lafreniere Over 1.5 shots on goal (-140 at DraftKings)

With Artemi Panarin now in Los Angeles, Lafreniere takes on a bigger role. He’s recorded multiple shots in 67% of his games against top-10 shot suppression teams this season, including nine of his last 11 in those matchups.

Lafreniere combined for 10 shot attempts and at least four shots on goal in both meetings against the Flyers this year. He’s skating on a line with Vincent Trocheck and getting first unit power play time, so the volume should be there.

Flyers vs Rangers Head-to-Head

The Rangers have owned this series recently. New York has won 10 of the last 13 meetings against Philadelphia, including back-to-back victories this season. They beat the Flyers 5-4 in a shootout on Dec. 20 before doubling them up 6-3 on Jan. 17, a game where Mika Zibanejad potted three goals.

The over has hit in four straight head-to-head meetings, and four of the last five at MSG. That tracks with what we’re seeing from both teams defensively this year.

01/23/2025NYR 6, PHI 1Over 5.5
11/29/2024PHI 3, NYR 1Under 6.5

The Flyers are 3-10 in the last 13 meetings, and even the games they’ve won have been high-scoring. This matchup just produces goals.

Flyers vs Rangers Odds

Odds as of Feb. 26 at consensus sportsbooks. Check out the latest NHL odds for all of tonight’s games.

The Rangers opened as a pick ’em but have moved to around -125 favorites at BetMGM. The Flyers are sitting at plus-money, between +100 and +118 depending on the book. New York is -1.5 on the puck line at +180, while Philadelphia is +1.5 at -220.

The total opened at 5.5 and has stayed there at most shops, though some books have bumped it to 6.0 with nearly 90% of the handle on the over. If you’re looking for my Flyers vs Rangers prediction, I’ll take the over at 5.5 all day.
