  • FIU brings one of the stingiest defenses in Conference USA into Jacksonville on Tuesday night, allowing 12.2 points per game.
  • The winner will join Liberty as the only teams unbeaten in C-USA play.

A pivotal Conference USA matchup is on deck as the Florida International Panthers travel to face the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. Kickoff is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, at 8:00 PM ET at AmFirst Stadium in Jacksonville, Alabama.

Jacksonville State sits atop the C-USA standings at 4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play after edging Kennesaw State 27-26. FIU arrives at 3-2 and 1-0 following a 22-3 win over New Mexico State.

I am always hunting for midweek value, and this one is a clash of styles. Read below for my Tuesday CFB prediction and best bets.

FIU vs Jacksonville State Picks

My favorite of the FIU vs Jacksonville State picks is the Under. The Panthers have leaned on an elite defensive unit all season, surrendering just 12.2 points and 241.8 total yards per contest through five games.

Jacksonville State likes to push the tempo, but they are going to run into real resistance here. The Gamecocks have not faced a defense playing at this level in conference play.

Pair that with FIU’s own offensive struggles and a lower scoring affair is the logical outcome. The Panthers average just 18.8 points per game, and their 22-3 win over New Mexico State is the template for how they want this to go.

The FIU vs Jacksonville State betting line has the Gamecocks as a field goal favorite at home, and the pricing tells you where the resistance is. You pay a slight premium at -110 to take the points, while Jacksonville State -3 is priced closer to even money at -108.

The total sits at 43.5, a low bar that reflects the Panthers’ defensive strength and limited scoring.

It is worth checking our college football odds page to see whether anyone is offering a better number on either side.

FIU vs Jacksonville State Prediction for Tuesday

  • Jacksonville State -3 (-108 at BetMGM)

My Tuesday CFB prediction comes down to the most dynamic playmaker on the field. Caden Creel is a true dual threat engine, throwing for 1,423 yards and 10 touchdowns while leading the Gamecocks with 405 rushing yards and four scores on the ground across six starts.

Last season in this matchup, Crele completed 17 for 30 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. He added 100 rushing yards on a whopping 19 carries as the Gamecocks ran for 251 yards in a 27-21 road loss.

Laying exactly a field goal is a comfortable spot for a home favorite at this price. FIU boasts a stellar defense, but their offense lacks the firepower to keep pace for four quarters.

Panthers quarterback JJ Kohl has thrown seven interceptions against five touchdowns in five starts. I trust the home side to win the turnover battle and cover.

If you would rather not sweat the number, the Gamecocks moneyline at -150 gets you the same side without needing the margin. Grab a BetMGM promo code before you play either version.

Total Defense Per Game241.8336.3
Passing Yards Per Game259.2244.8
Rushing Yards Per Game119.2146.3

The FIU vs Jacksonville State matchup turns on one collision: the Panthers defense against the Gamecocks offense. Jacksonville State generates 391.2 total yards per game, but FIU allows a measly 85.4 rushing yards per contest.

If FIU can stifle Creel’s rushing ability, they keep this within striking distance and the Under looks even stronger. That is the version of this game where the road team hangs around into the fourth quarter.

The problem is what happens on the other end. FIU leans on the pass at 259.2 yards per game against just 119.2 on the ground, and receivers like Maguire Anderson and his 401 yards can only do so much if the offense cannot stay on schedule. FIU has averaged 21 points per game in its current two-game winning streak over FCS LIU and New Mexico State.
