What’s new in 2026? A return of the old! The 2026 NASCAR postseason format is doing away with the “win-and-you’re-in” rule and returning to the Chase for the Cup: the top 16 drivers after 26 races qualify for the Chase, when point totals reset and bonuses are awarded for regular season positioning. From there, the NASCAR Cup champ is whoever tops the pile at the end of the season.

NASCAR Cup Odds Movement Timeline
- March 23 – He’s at it again! Tyler Reddick just won his fourth race of the season – and we’re still in March! He’s now getting +550 to win the NASCAR Cup, sitting just behind fourth-place Denny Hamlin (+450).
- February 24 – After winning the first two races of the season, I’d say Tyler Reddick is off to a hot start! In just one week, Reddick has seen his cup odds shorten from +1400 to +1000.
- February 12 – We’re just days away from the season opening Daytona 500 and Kyle Larson has once again opened the season as the favorite to win the NASCAR Cup. Last season’s champ is averaging +462 to repeat as champ, just ahead of the average odds of Denny Hamlin (+512), William Byron (+612), Ryan Blaney (+662), and Christopher Bell (+712).
Past NASCAR Cup Series Champions
Kyle Larson won his second NASCAR Cup Series Championship in 2025. Sportsbooks opened with Larson’s odds between +500 and +600, top among all drivers at the start of the season. His win at the Straight Talk Wireless 400 in Homestead, the sixth race of the season, secured Larson’s place in the playoffs.
He’d go on to win two more races last season, the Food City 500 at Bristol and the AdventHealth 400 at the Kansas Speedway, but Larson’s four Top 5 finishes in the last five playoff races would help secure his second championship.
Odds for Past Cup Champions
Last season’s champ, Kyle Larson, opens with odds as low as +400 odds to capture his third cup in 2026. The previous four winners other than Larson, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, and Kyle Busch, respectively open at +1800, +650, +750, and +4500 to win in 2026.

What do Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, and Jimmie Johnson have in common? In addition to being NASCAR royalty, all three drivers have also won seven Cup championships. Johnson is the only driver to ever win five consecutive titles.
