Monday, May 27th marks Memorial Day in the United States. It’s an important day in the country’s history and with most of the nation having the holiday off, sports will be a popular pastime for the day.

We’ve got a full slate of action from baseball to soccer to hockey. Let’s take a closer look at what we can look forward to:

Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals is set for Monday night at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Boston Bruins, who have been off since May 16th, will host Game 1.

Blues vs Bruins Game 1 Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
St. Louis Blues +1.5 (-190) +140 O 5.5 (+125)
Boston Bruins -1.5 (+165) -160 U 5.5 (-145)

So far this postseason, Boston is 6-3 at home. However, the St. Louis Blues have been effective on the road, winning six of their eight away playoff games.

Rest could be a big factor as the Bruins were merely 1-6 when having three or more days rest. The Blues were 7-4 in that same role.

I’m expecting the Bruins to come away with the first win of the series. They are 17-6 this season when at home with a total of 5.5.

The Blues haven’t had to face a team that’s as complete as Boston and their experience. Rest and goaltending will be tough to beat in Game 1.

14 Major League Baseball Games

There are 14 games on the slate for Major League Baseball with action beginning as early as 1:00 p.m. ET.

Miami Marlins vs Washington Nationals Odds

Team Runline Moneyline Total
Miami Marlins +1.5 (+110) +250 O 8.0 (-105)
Washington Nationals -1.5 (-130) -300 U 8.0 (-115)

One of the headliners on the day will be Max Scherzer, as the former Cy Young Award winner will take to the mound for the Washington Nationals.

However, his opponent, the Miami Marlins, might be worth a look here. Scherzer has started 11 games this season and the Nats have lost nine of those outings.

If you’re nervous to back the lousy Marlins on the road, consider taking the over.

Scherzer’s last 10 starts have seen an average of 10.5 combined runs per game with nine of the last 10 seeing at least seven runs each time.

Chicago Cubs vs Houston Astros Odds

Team Runline Moneyline Total
Chicago Cubs +1.5 (-120) +168 O 8.0 (-115)
Houston Astros -1.5 (+100) -196 U 8.0 (-105)

The Chicago Cubs will visit the Houston Astros in a possible World Series preview, as Cole Hamels will face Gerrit Cole.

Hamels is a perfect 3-0 on the road this season and has had some fantastic run support in away games. The Cubs have scored 50 runs in his five road starts.

Meanwhile, Cole has been the opposite as the Astros have scored just 28 runs in his five home starts. That’s not bad but keep in mind that 11 of those came in one outing, so they’ve averaged 4.3 runs per start in his other four.

Bet the Cubs as a live road dog here. They’ve won eight of Hamels last nine starts.

New York Mets vs Los Angeles Dodgers Odds

Team Runline Moneyline Total
New York Mets +1.5 (-155) +141 O 6.5 (-115)
Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (+135) -162 U 6.5 (-105)

We’ll also get an evening game between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, which will be featured on ESPN at 8:10 p.m. ET.

The pitching matchup is tantalizing as Jacob deGrom will take on Clayton Kershaw in a battle of former Cy Young Award winners.

YouTube video

Kershaw often comes with a lot of juice when he’s on the mound but he’s been money in the bank for the Dodgers so far this season, so roll with him again.

The team has won each of the seven times he’s been on the bump this year. Meanwhile, DeGrom hasn’t enjoyed that type of success. The Mets have won two of his last three starts but those are their only two wins in his last eight starts.

French Open Tennis

The women will get busy on Monday, May 27th as action will be running all day starting from about 5:00 a.m ET.

Schmiedlová vs Osaka

Player Odds
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova +525
Naomi Osaka -850

Among the highlights of the day will be No. 1 Naomi Osaka, who is in action against Anna Karolína Schmiedlová.

Schmiedlová has just four wins in her last 13 matches. Osaka was just 6-3 during the clay-court season, so she’ll be looking for a good start here to gather some momentum.

Tomljanovic vs Halep

Player Odds
Ajla Tomljanovic +400
Simona Halep -600

We’ll also see tournament favorite, Simona Halep, take to the court for her first match.

She’s the defending champion at Roland Garros and has been to the final in back-to-back years. She’ll start against Ajla Tomljanović, who is just 1-5 in her last six against seeded players.

Cirstea vs Kvitova

Player Odds
Sorana Cirstea +450
Petra Kvitova -750

Another key matchup will be no. 6 Petra Kvitova getting started against Sorana Cirstea. Kvitova made it to the Australian Open final and is an impressive 28-8 on the year with two titles already.

The juice is going to be high on all three favorites but I would consider playing a moneyline parlay of the trio to drop down that price. They should all advance in straight sets.

U-20 FIFA World Cup Matchday 2 Continues

The United States will be on the field taking on Nigeria in U-20 World Cup soccer action on Monday in Poland.

USA vs Nigeria Odds

Team Odds
USA +190
Nigeria +130
Draw +240

The United States was in action on Friday night but the result wasn’t pretty as they lost 2-1 to Ukraine. As for Nigeria, they had a much better outing on Friday as they smoked Qatar 4-0.

Of course, when you’re looking at the competition, the United States played a much tougher opponent. At the same time, you’d like to see them earn at least a draw against Ukraine, who isn’t exactly a soccer power house.

Bet Nigeria in this spot as they’re the better of the two teams. They should find their way to a win as the US team just didn’t look very good on Friday.
