The Colorado State Rams are rolling. At 16-1, they’re off to the best start in school history and will look to rack up their sixth straight victory on Friday (Jan. 28) versus the visiting UNLV Rebels.

While CSU is on a tear, the same cannot be said for the Rebels. UNLV (11-9, 3-4 MWC) has alternated wins and losses over its past seven games, and is fresh off a blowout defeat to San Diego State.

The Rams opened up as 11.5-point favorites, in a game that features a total of 141.5. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 pm ET at the Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colorado, a building where CSU is a perfect 10-0 this season.

Despite the impressive run, CSU’s NCAA Tournament champion odds have only improved from +18000 to +12500 over the course of the season.

Colorado State Rams Betting Trends

The Rams latest victory came on Tuesday versus Nevada. They took down the Wolf Pack 77-66, led once again by the dynamic duo of David Roddy and Isaiah Stevens.

Roddy racked up an impressive stat line of 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Stevens poured in 16 points. Roddy comes in ranked sixth in the Mountain West in both points (18.6) and rebounds (7.9) per outing, while Stevens averages 15 points per night and leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio.

CSU is one of just two programs in the country, along with #1 Auburn, who have just a single loss on its resume. They’re just outside the top-25 in the AP polls, but do check in at number 4 in the Mid Major ranks. The biggest reason they’re not considered a top-25 program at the moment is their strength of schedule.

They’ve played the 173rd toughest schedule so far according to KenPom, but they’ve been impressive against quality competition. The Rams are 4-1 versus top-70 opposition, with an average margin of victory of 9.5 points.

Against teams ranked outside the top-100, they’ve taken care of business. CSU is 12-0 in those matchups, with eight double-digit victories.

UNLV Rebels Betting Analysis

The Rebels latest defeat versus the Aztecs matched their second worst offensive performance of the season. They fell 80-55, while shooting a dismal 31.7% from the field.

Defensively, they allowed San Diego State to shoot 52.5% from the field, and 35.3% from beyond the arc. They enter play Friday allowing 67.3 points per game, while yielding a 42.5% opponent shooting percentage.

Offensively, they average 68.7 points per outing, which is 9 points less than the Rams. They rank 269th in field goal percentage, and 136th in adjusted offensive efficiency per KenPom, while CSU checks in at number 19.

UNLV has looked respectable against lousy competition this season, but has been downright bad against superior opponents. The Rebels are 0-8 straight up versus top-90 teams, averaging just 61 points per night, while surrendering an average of 75 points.

UNLV vs Colorado State Pick

Not only have the Rebels piled up outright losses in those games, they’ve also failed to cover the majority of the time. They’re 1-7 against the spread versus top-90 opponents, and 2-5 ATS so far in conference play.

CSU meanwhile, is 3-1 ATS in their past four games, and 6-5 against the spread as a favorite of 8.5 points or more.

Another trend to look at is the Rams proficiency at cashing under tickets. The under has hit in nine of their past 10 outings, including six of seven conference games this year.

Facing a UNLV team that hasn’t shown the ability to punch back against superior competition, this game should fail to reach the total as well.

Picks: Colorado State Rams -11.5 (-110), Under 141.5 (-110)
