Through 54 holes of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay are threatening to run away with the tournament, as they’ve opened up a commanding five shot edge over Branden Grace and Garrick Higgo. A further shot adrift are three teams, including Billy Horschel and Sam Burns.
Before the tournament began, Schauffele and Cantlay were the second favorites to claim the title, behind only Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland. They’ve dominated with rounds of 59-68-60, and don’t show any signs of letting up. Read on to see the updated odds and best bets to make for the final round.

Schauffele/Cantlay Tandem On Fire
Given that they were considered to be the second favorite to win this week, and how amazingly they’ve dominated, it’s hard to think Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay are suddenly going to crumble. After all, Cantlay was just in a playoff last week at the RBC Heritage, his second playoff this season. Sunday’s final round is the same format as Friday, which is alternate shot, making it very difficult for teams to make ground.
The two are also neck-and-neck on the PGA Championship odds, providing excellent value.
At 187 (-29) Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele
set the 54-hole scoring record at Zurich Classic of New Orleans.Five-stroke lead marks the largest after 54 holes in tournament history (since 2017).

In that second round, they were solid, posting five birdies against one bogey. That’s their only dropped shot of the event. Their current price of -650 to win is unbettable, since there’s virtually no money in it. Even though they’re likely to win, it does open up an opportunity for great value on every other team competing.
The duo that is most threatening is Billy Horschel and Sam Burns. Horschel has won at this track twice, once as an individual (2013) and once as part of a duo (2018). Burns has won twice this season, and went to LSU, so they’re both comfortable at this course. They currently sit at +1100 to overtake the leaders, which is an intriguing number.
2022 Zurich Classic Best Live Value Pick
- Branden Grace/Garrick Higgo (+1400): The South African pairing of Branden Grace and Garrick Higgo are the closest to Schauffele and Cantlay, five strokes behind. Higgo won as a rookie on the PGA Tour last season and Grace has two tour wins to his credit, in addition to nine wins on the DP Tour. They tied for the best round during the second round alternate shot format, showing they could close the gap. Realistically, they’re the only option other than Horschel/Burns duo, with Aaron Rai and David Lipsky both never earning a PGA Tour title in their careers.
