The PGA Tour heads off the mainland to start a two-event stretch outside of the United States. This week it’s the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, which is being contested for the fourth time. In the three previous iterations, the winner shot at least 15-under-par over 72 holes, on the par-71 Port Royal Golf Course.

After this week, the tour will head to Mexico, and then there are just two more events to conclude 2022, before a break until official events take place again in the new year. Lucas Herbert won last year, in just his third start as a member of the PGA Tour.

After Rory McIlroy won the CJ Cup to ascend back to #1 in the world, this field has failed to attract big names. At the CJ Cup, ten of the top 15 golfers teed it up, but this week, Seamus Power is the lone top-50 golfer competing.

SH Kim With Good Start to Season

Before a pedestrian finish at last weekend’s CJ Cup, SH Kim had been turning heads at the start of his 2022-23 campaign. Kim was trending upwards, going T-36, T-13, then tied for fourth at the Shriners Open.

Subsequently, he’s found himself very high on quite a few ‘strokes gained’ categories.

SH Kim is a tour rookie with only six starts under his belt, but already he’s showing he can handle the big stage. At +3000, you’re getting him at longer odds than the top-five golfers on the board, which presents some value.

2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship Picks and Value Bets

  1. Russell Knox (+3000): In the three years of this tournament, Russell Knox has been solid each go around. His three results were T-11, T-12 and T-16. Knox, who has two PGA Tour wins to his credit, has posted top-25s in three of his last six events.
  2. Nick Taylor (+4000): Canadian Nick Taylor has won twice on the PGA Tour (2014 Sanderson Farms, 2020 Pebble Beach), and has had two great starts to his 2022-23 campaign. He was T-6 at the Fortinet Championship, where he was first in strokes gained: around the green, and second tee-to-green. Then, he posted a solid T-19 at Sanderson Farms. Taylor was T-5 in birdies for that week.
  3. Brian Gay (+20000): There are horses for courses and Brian Gay certainly typifies that at this tournament. In 2019, the five-time PGA Tour veteran finished T-3rd. He then went out and won here in 2020 for that fifth victory, and followed up his title defense with a solid T-12th last season. In that span, he ranks tops in total strokes gained at the Bermuda. With these wildly long odds, he’ll still be a solid option for top 10/20 markets.
