Normally, the presence of the Masters Tournament in early April announces the hopefulness that comes with the arrival of spring. This is 2020, though, so nothing is normal.

Via its COVID-19-related delay to mid-November, the Masters is instead announcing the impending gloom that comes from the arrival of winter. Fortunately, several online sportsbooks are on board to brighten the event.

A hole in one may be a rare event for the recreational golfer. When it comes to the world’s best, though, it’s not all that infrequent of an occurrence.

BetMGM is offering boosted odds from -200 to -110 that an ace will be scored during the 2020 Masters Tournament.

During practice for this year’s Masters Tournament, Jon Rahm recorded aces on successive days. That included a highlight-reel shot skimming his ball across a pond and on to the green, where it slowly curled its way into the cup.

The record for most holes in one on the PGA Tour is 10. This mark is shared by Robert Allenby and Hal Sutton. Phil Mickelson has recorded five hole in ones. Tiger Woods has potted three aces on Tour in his career.

Hole In Ones at Augusta

At the Masters, 27 aces have been recorded during tournament history. That includes six over the past three events.

Last year, both DeChambeau and Justin Thomas aced the 179-yard 16th hole. It’s proven to be the most popular spot at Augusta National for aces. There’s been 21 recored on that hole in tournament history.

There’s also been five aces posted on #6 and three at #12. Jeff Sluman, in 1992, is the only player to ever record a hole in one at #4.

Three of the last four Masters tournaments witnessed the posting of a hole in one. There were three in 2016 and one in 2019. All were also recorded on #16.

Four of the last five Masters played in even-numbered years saw some player hit an ace.

Will the Cut Be Kind?

Rahm (three tournaments) and Schauffele (two tourneys) have never missed the cut at the Masters. Koepka and Johnson both survived the cut in each of their past four Masters appearances.

The wild card in this wager is Morikawa. The PGA Championship winner is playing in his first Masters.

Morikawa has missed the cut in his last two events, including the US Open. He’d gone 15 events prior to that without missing a cut.

It’s been 40 years since a Masters rookie won the tournament. But with five top players involved, this seems like a boost worth playing.
