Oakland lost a game in Detroit for the first time since 2016. Even so, the A’s have won six of seven from the Tigers. They’ve been victorious in 22 of their last 24 meeting with Detroit.

Oakland has won 12 of the last 13 games at Detroit. Before Wednesday, the previous home victory recorded by the Tigers over the A’s was a 7-3 verdict on April 28, 2016.

Athletics right-hander Frankie Montas has been masterful on the mound of late. He’s pitched 14.2 scoreless innings over his past three starts. The righty 1-0 in his last two starts.
He is moving up a day in the rotation. Montas has visa issues and won’t be able to travel to Toronto for Oakland’s weekend series against the Blue Jays.

Montas held two of baseball’s best teams, the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees, each scoreless through seven innings of work. Combined over the two performances, he struck of 15 while walking three and allowing only four hits. His victory over the Yankees in his last start halted their 13-game winning streak.
On April 16, Montas worked six innings of two-hit shutout ball and got the win in a 2-0 shutout of the Tigers. In six career appearances against Detroit, including five starts, Montas is 3-2 with a 5.26 ERA.

Tigers rookie right-hander Manning will be making his seventh career start at Comerica Park. He’s proven to be much more effective on the home mound. Manning is 2-1 with a 2.93 when pitching in Detroit. He hasn’t lost at home since July 31. Manning struck out a career high five batters in his last start against Toronto.

Detroit’s first-round pick in 2016, Manning will be facing the A’s for the first time in his big-league career. Manning ranks in baseball’s bottom 1% in strikeout percentage (12.1). He’s in the bottom 3% in xBA (.289) and the bottom 6% in exit velocity (91.2).
