Just like last year, all four best-of-three Wild Card series were settled in the minimum two games in the 2023 MLB playoffs. That means both the ALDS and NLDS matchups were solidified on Wednesday night. The ALDS odds heavily favor the Astros over the Twins but the Rangers vs Orioles series is seen as a toss-up by oddsmakers.

In the National League, the Arizona Diamondbacks (86-78, 43-38 home, 43-40 away) stunned the Milwaukee Brewers as +156 road underdogs, winning 6-3 on Tuesday night and 5-2 on Wednesday to punch their ticket to the NLDS. The opening line for their matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers (100-62, 53-28 home, 47-34 away) sets them as underdogs once again, but curiously, they are smaller underdogs to the 100-win Dodgers in a best-of-five than they were in a best-of-three with the 92-win Brewers.

Los Angeles is a -154 favorite to advance to the National League Championship Series for the sixth time in the last eight seasons. Arizona comes back at a +126 price to advance to their first NLCS since 2001, when they captured the organization’s one and only World Series title to date.

The Dodgers (+435) trail only the Atlanta Braves (+277) in the World Series odds. The D-Backs remain +1400 longshots along with a +550 bet in the NL Pennant odds.

These NL West rivals met 13 times in the regular season with the Dodgers winning eight. Los Angeles has taken the season series from the D-Backs every season since 2018, going a dominant 57-23 against Arizona in that span.

Phillies vs Braves NLDS Odds

In the other half of the MLB playoff bracket, the Braves (104-58, 52-29 home, 52-29 away) – the league’s best team in the regular season – are -220 favorites to dethrone the reigning NL-champion Philadelphia Phillies (92-72, 51-32 home, 41-40 away). The Phillies are +176 underdogs to make it back to the NLCS for the second straight season.

Philadelphia’s best-of-three Wild Card with the Miami Marlins was a laugher. The Phillies outscored Miami 11-2 over two games on Tuesday and Wednesday. The only negative is that they used their top-two starting pitchers – Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola – leaving Taijuan Walker ( ERA) or Ranger Suarez ( ERA) on the hook for Game 1 and 2 against the Dodgers on Saturday.

The good news is that the NL portion of the MLB playoff bracket has an off day on Sunday, so Wheeler should be good to go on six days’ rest for Game 2 on Monday.

Philadelphia vs Atlanta NLDS Schedule

The Phillies crushed the Braves three games to one in the 2022 NLDS, outscoring Atlanta 24-13 in the process. But, as they did with almost every team in the majors this year, the Braves won the 2023 season series with their NL East rivals (8-5). That marked the third straight season which Atlanta won the season series against Philadelphia.

As mentioned, the Braves sit atop the World Series odds entering the divisional series. The Phillies are sixth among the eight remaining teams at +700. They’re third in the NL Pennant odds at +330, well ahead of the Diamondbacks (+550) but considerably longer than both the Braves (+160) and Dodgers (+195).
