Rangers vs Orioles Odds & Schedule

The  Baltimore Orioles (101-66 overall, 49-32 home, 52-29 away) were the top team in the AL for the vast majority of the season, finishing with two more wins that the Tampa Bay Rays and 11 more than any other team in the AL. Yet, they only had a +129 run differential, 36 fewer than their ALDS opponents, Texas.

The Rangers were massively impressive in their two-game mini-sweep over Tampa Bay in the AL Wild Card. Texas outscored the Rays, who had been the best home team in the  majors in the regular season, by a score of 11-1 over the two games. Ranger pitchers surrendered just 14 hits over 18 innings while striking out 19 Tampa hitters.

ALDS Schedule: Texas vs Baltimore

Game Date & Time Home Team
Game 1 Saturday, Oct. 7 (1pm ET) Baltimore
Game 2 Sunday, Oct. 8 (TBD) Baltimore
Game 3 Tuesday, October 10 (TBD) Texas
Game 4 Wednesday, October 11 (TBD) Texas
Game 5 Friday, October 13 (TBD) Baltimore

Texas’ starting rotation has been hit hard by injuries with both Max Scherzer and Jon Gray on the shelf. Jordan Montgomery and Nathan Eovaldi pitched on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. That leaves the Game 1 start for the ALDS, in all likelihood, to Dane Dunning. Prior to this season, that wouldn’t be a positive omen for Texas. But the 28-year-old has actually been the anchor of the Rangers rotation. He was the only member of the staff who pitched enough innings to qualify for the leaderboards, and he posted a career-best 3.70 ERA.

Baltimore’s rotation is headed by veteran Kyle Gibson (4.73 ERA) and playoff-newcomers Dean Kremer (4.12 ERA) and Kyle Bradish (2.83). The real strength of the Oriole pitching staff is in the bullpen. The O’s pen combined for a 7.6 WAR, tied for the best mark in the league with the Dodgers, despite pitching nearly 75 fewer innings than the LAD bullpen.

Oddsmakers seen the Rangers as having more upside. Texas is currently a +650 bet to win the World Series, narrowly ahead of the Orioles, who are +750 in the latest World Series odds. The updated AL Pennant odds list the Rangers at +280 and the O’s at +290, both trailing the Orioles at +185.

Twins vs Astros Odds & Schedule

Minnesota put an end to its two-decade-plus playoff drought on Wednesday evening, finishing off the Toronto Blue Jays (2-0) to sweep the other AL Wild Card. Minnesota’s last playoff series win came over the Oakland Athletics in 2002. They had lost nine straight series and Wild Card games before putting an end to the curse with two convincing victories over Toronto. Like Texas, Minnesota surrendered just one run over 18 innings in their Wild Card series. Their offense wasn’t as potent as the Rangers’, though, scoring just six runs themselves.

ALDS Schedule: Minnesota vs Houston

Game Date & Time Home Team
Game 1 Saturday, Oct. 7 (TBD) Houston
Game 2 Sunday, Oct. 8 (TBD) Houston
Game 3 Tuesday, October 10 (TBD) Minnesota
Game 4 Wednesday, October 11 (TBD) Minnesota
Game 5 Friday, October 13 (TBD) Houston

The Twins will now have to contend with the AL superpower that is the Houston Astros. Houston has won the American League Pennant in three of the past four seasons and four of the past six.

The Twins took four of six from Houston in the regular season, scoring 29 runs over the six games. In 2022, however, Houston took all six games against the Twins, with all six victories coming by at least two runs.

Houston enters the ALDS as the favorite to win the Pennant again (+185), while Minnesota is the longest shot left on the board at +390. Minnesota’s last AL Pennant came in 1991, when Jack Morris and company went onto win the World Series 4-3 over the Atlanta Braves.
