  • The LA Dodgers have the shortest divisional odds of any team in baseball
  • LA has the best record in the league and holds a commanding 12-game lead over Colorado in the NL West
  • Can anyone challenge the Dodgers for the division title?

The Los Angeles Dodgers are a juggernaut. They’ve won seven of their past nine games and are getting production from literally everyone on the roster.

LA’s lead in the NL West is now up to 12 games over Colorado and their MLB divisional odds are the shortest of any team in baseball by an extremely large margin.

2019 National League West Odds

Team Odds
Los Angeles Dodgers -50000
Colorado Rockies +3000
Arizona Diamondbacks +3500
San Diego Padres +5000
San Francisco Giants +50000

*Odds taken 06/26/19

It’s no longer a question of if they’re going to win the division, but rather when. If we think their current .672 winning percentage is sustainable, the answer could come as early as late August.

One of the Best Dodgers Teams Ever

The Dodgers are off to their best 82 game start in franchise history. They’re loaded with talent at the plate and on the mound, and if the season ended today, they’d have the NL Cy Young Winner (Hyun-Jin Ryu) and the NL MVP (Cody Bellinger) on their roster.

They have eight hitters with a WAR of at least 1.1, and their starting rotation is 40-15 since the end of April. The entire pitching staff  has been lights out this month in particular, holding opposing hitters to a .190 batting average, which is a franchise low in the live ball era.

No NL West Team is Catching Them

Their +125 run differential is 15 runs higher than any other team in baseball and 62 runs higher than any other team in the National League. They’re well on their way to capturing a seventh straight division title and since the start of 2013 they have 32 more regular season wins than any other team in baseball.

Even if they came crashing back to earth and played .500 ball for the final 80 games of the season, the Rockies would need to win 54 games between now and the end of September to pass them. Considering Colorado’s run differential is a measly +20 and they’ve surrendered 124 more runs than Dodgers so far this season, the chances of them running LA down are extraordinary slim.

To make matters worse, the Rockies were just swept by the Dodgers over the weekend and are 0-6 versus them in 2019.

LA is World Series Bound

There’s no safer bet than LA winning the NL West, but at -50000 odds the opportunity cost is far too great to bet. They’re clearly the best team in the NL, so if you want to buy some Dodgers stock consider their +120 National League Pennant odds or their +250 World Series odds a more prudent investment.

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers (-50000)
