The San Francisco Giants (1-2, 1-2 road) continue their road trip on Monday as they begin a three-game set with the Chicago White Sox (2-2, 0-0 home) at Guaranteed Rate Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:10 pm ET.

On the mound, Anthony DeSclafani takes the ball for the visitors, while the Southsiders counter with hard-throwing righty Michael Kopech.

Giants vs White Sox Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
San Francisco Giants +115 +1.5 (-175) Ov 8.5 (-105)
Chicago White Sox -135 -1.5 (+150) Un 8.5 (-115)

These two teams have only met six times since 2017, with the White Sox having won the last five. That’s why seeing them as a -135 home favorite here is not surprising. The Giants return at +115 after a tough series to start the season against the Yankees.

San Francisco vs Chicago Probable Pitchers

DeSclafani had ankle surgery early on in 2022 and ultimately missed most of the year due to rehab. In six starts, however, he struggled immensely, going 0-2 with a 6.63 ERA in 19 innings pitched.

That being said, the veteran was extremely effective in the 2021 season, making 31 starts and pitching to a 3.17 ERA while posting a 13-7 record. That was his best big league campaign by far. DeSclafani has only faced the White Sox once in his career and ultimately gave up five earned runs in 5.1 frames.

DeSclafani vs Kopech 2022 Stats

Anthony DeSclafani
VS
Michael Kopech
0-2 Record 5-9
6.63 ERA 3.54
19 Innings Pitched 119.1
17 Strikeouts 105
4 Walks 57

Kopech hasn’t been around very long, but last season was his coming-out party as a starter. The former first-round pick made a career-high 25 appearances, all starts, compiling a 3.54 ERA in 119.1 innings. The youngster also struck out 105 but command did prove to be an issue, allowing 57 free passes.

He also pitched quite poorly in Spring Training with an ERA over seven. Kopech has toed the mound against the Giants in the regular season but did face them in Cactus League action, surrendering five earned.

Giants Bats Struggling

Playing in the Bronx in the hostile Yankee Stadium environment is never easy when you’re facing a guy like Gerrit Cole, who diced the Giants in the season opener. San Francisco managed to win Game 2 of the series 7-5 but they were shut out in Games 1 and 3, combining for a mere seven hits.

While the arms aren’t exactly shining either, the San Fran offense must provide them with run support. Hopefully, the lineup can follow Brandon Crawford’s lead, who slashed .375 in the opening three-game set with a homer.

White Sox Showed Guts in Houston

Chicago was tasked with the toughest test of any team to begin the 2023 campaign: Playing in Houston against the defending World Series champion Astros. The White Sox really held their own though and had the chance to win basically every single matchup in the series.

Both Luis Robert and Yoan Moncada homered in the finale on Sunday in a 6-3 win, with Robert also making a sliding grab in the ninth to rob Kyle Tucker. The slugger is even an AL MVP odds longshot at +6000. On the bump, Mike Clevinger tossed five solid innings as well. The Sox will certainly be confident heading back home.

Giants vs White Sox Prediction

History speaks for itself. Chicago is dominant against San Fran over the last number of seasons and just gave the champs a run for their money. There is lots of momentum for this ball club right now. Lock in the White Sox moneyline.

Pick: White Sox moneyline (-135)
