Guardians vs Rays Game 1 Expert Predictions & Betting Splits

- My Guardians vs Rays prediction backs a low-scoring playoff battle favoring the home team
- The Rays moneyline offers great moneyline value, as they’ve been the best team in the AL for much of the 2026 season
- Expect Drew Rasmussen to dominate Cleveland’s lineup as one of my top Guardians vs Rays player props
The Tampa Bay Rays (98–64, 55–26 home) host the Cleveland Guardians (85–77, 44–37 away) in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on October 12 at 8:00 PM ET at Tropicana Field, with live coverage broadcast on TBS, Max, and truTV. Both clubs enter this pennant clash riding major momentum after thrilling ALDS triumphs.
Tampa Bay hasn’t taken the field since October 7, when they polished off a clean sweep of the New York Yankees with a 4–3 victory in the Bronx to earn four days of well-deserved rest. Cleveland, on the other hand, had to fight for survival against the Chicago White Sox, storming back from an 0–2 series deficit with three consecutive elimination-game wins, culminating in a tense 2–0 shutout on October 10 where their pitching staff combined for 21 strikeouts.
With Drew Rasmussen slated to take the mound against Foster Griffin in ALCS Game 1 on Monday, this series opener sets up a classic battle between Tampa Bay’s dominant home rotation and a resilient Guardians squad that posted a winning record away from Progressive Field.
Guardians vs Rays Picks & Predictions
Moneyline Pick: Tampa Bay Rays (-150 / 60¢ at Kalshi)
While sportsbooks list Tampa Bay at -169, Kalshi offers a 60¢ contract on the Rays to win, translating to a more favorable -150 equivalent. I am backing the Rays to maintain their perfect postseason record behind their elite pitching staff and overwhelming home-field edge. Tampa Bay was a juggernaut at Tropicana Field during the regular season, posting an American League-best 55–26 home record, and they dominated Cleveland in St. Petersburg by sweeping a three-game July set by a combined 15–3 score.
Starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen gives the Rays a massive upper hand on the mound; the right-hander went 12–3 with a 2.87 ERA at home during the regular season and opened the postseason in peak form, spinning 8.0 innings of one-hit, shutout ball with 10 strikeouts in ALDS Game 1 against the Yankees. With Rasmussen rested and backed by a bullpen that surrendered only five earned runs all postseason, Tampa Bay is in prime position to take Game 1.
Run-Total Pick: Under 6.5 (+113 / 47% at Novig)
BetMGM prices the Under at +100, but Kalshi’s 47¢ “No” contract on Over 6.5 runs offers an appealing +113 payout equivalent. Expect a low-scoring, pitching-dominated affair that follows a well-established blueprint between these two teams. Five of the six regular-season meetings between Cleveland and Tampa Bay stayed Under 6.5 runs, including combined scores of 3–2, 1–0, 3–1, 3–0, and 1–0.
Looking at the MLB park factors, Tropicana Field consistently plays as one of baseball’s most extreme run-suppressing environments, and both rotations excel at limiting hard contact and suppressing the long ball. With Tampa Bay’s staff sporting a 1.67 postseason ERA and Cleveland fresh off a Game 5 shutout, both bullpens are built to slam the door in the late innings before offenses can mount rallies. At plus-money odds on Kalshi, the Under provides tremendous standalone value.
Turning to the prop market, I have identified a few MLB player props with strong situational backing.
Best Player-Prop Bet: Foster Griffin Over 3.5 Strikeouts (+100 / 50¢ at Kalshi)
Griffin has cleared this total in four straight road outings, averaging 5.5 strikeouts per game during that span.
The southpaw has been notably sharper missing bats away from home all season, racking up 100 strikeouts in 99.1 road innings (9.06 K/9) and cashing the Over 3.5 strikeout prop in 15 of his 19 road appearances (78.9%). Griffin already showed he can generate postseason whiffs on the road when he struck out seven batters in just 2.2 innings of relief during Game 3 in Chicago on October 7.
Against a Tampa Bay lineup that struck out 31 times across three games in the ALDS and tends to work deep counts, Griffin’s deceptive delivery and high-spin breaking stuff should generate plenty of chase swings to clear this modest bar within his first four to five frames.
Guardians vs Rays Game Odds & Betting Splits
Here are the latest MLB odds for this Game 1 showdown.
Odds as of Monday, October 12, 1:30 PM EDT at BetMGM.
The betting public firmly supports my moneyline stance. A massive 80.7% of all moneyline tickets back the home favorites. More importantly, 86.1% of the total moneyline handle supports Tampa Bay, indicating large-money confidence.
This sentiment carries over to the runline market. Bettors are aggressively laying the -1.5 runs with Tampa Bay for the plus-money payout. The Rays command 87.8% of the runline tickets and 88.7% of the total cash wagered on the spread.
The total market features a more balanced split. Bettors slightly lean toward my official recommendation of the Under, drawing 50.6% of the tickets. The money percentage shows a stronger conviction for a low-scoring game, with 56.0% of the handle riding on the Under.
Guardians vs Rays Probable Pitchers: Rasmussen vs Griffin
This pitching matchup features two durable rotation anchors who each surpassed 170 innings and earned 15+ wins during the regular season. Cleveland’s Foster Griffin takes the mound for the visiting Guardians, squaring off against Tampa Bay’s Drew Rasmussen.
Griffin was a steady presence in Cleveland’s rotation all season, racking up 15 wins across 31 starts while striking out 100 batters on the road. The 31-year-old left-hander delivered big in the ALDS out of the bullpen in Game 3 at Chicago, tossing 2.2 innings of one-run relief while striking out seven batters to earn the win in Cleveland’s comeback effort.
With Shane McClanahan injured, Rasmussen serves as Tampa Bay’s playoff ace. During the regular season, he paired a pristine 2.67 ERA with an elite 0.91 WHIP, holding opposing hitters under a .200 batting average. He carried that dominance directly into October by twirling a postseason gem in ALDS Game 1, tossing 8.0 shutout innings of one-hit ball with 10 strikeouts against the Yankees.
BvP: Guardians Batters vs Rasmussen
When analyzing these MLB batter vs pitcher stats, Steven Kwan stands out. Kwan owns a .333 average against Rasmussen across 12 at-bats, supplying two extra-base hits without striking out.
Conversely, Rasmussen has thoroughly dominated Guardians superstar José Ramírez. He has limited Ramírez to a .083 average with three strikeouts in 12 at-bats. Brayan Rocchio and Jo Adell have also struggled mightily in this split.
BvP: Rays Batters vs Griffin
Tampa Bay batters have virtually no track record against Griffin. Jonathan Aranda is the only Rays batter to record an official at-bat against the left-hander, which resulted in a strikeout.
