The Seattle Mariners get their last chance to bite into the Astros’ sizeable lead in the American League West when the teams meet at 2:10 pm ET, Wednesday, at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
With the teams playing each other for the final time this season – at least in the regular season – the Astros hold a 6.5-game advantage over the second-place Mariners. Houston is a big favorite as it looks to sweep the three-game series.
The Mariners (75-64) came to Houston on a five-game winnings streak while the Astros (81-57) had lost five of six.

Probable Pitchers
Left-hander Tyler Anderson (6-9, 4.08) will start for the Mariners against Jose Urquidy (6-3, 3.42).
Anderson has gone 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in seven starts for the Mariners since being acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a July 28 trade. He is 0-1 with a 3.93 ERA in his las three outings.
Anderson vs Urquidy

4.08 | ERA | 3.42 |
4.10 | xERA | 3.63 |
1.17 | WHIP | 0.98 |
4.00 | SO/W | 5.00 |
In his last outing Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix, Anderson did not factor in the decision while allowing three runs on four hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one.
It marked Anderson’s third quality start in seven outings with the Mariners and 10th overall in 25 games this season. The Mariners are 4-3 in his starts.

Anderson has had some struggles on the road, going 4-5 with a 4.76 ERA in 14 starts. In 10 starts during the day, he has a 4-5 record and a 3.28 ERA.
Anderson has faced the Astros once this season, getting a no-decision Aug. 22 in Houston when he yielded two runs in 5.1 innings. He is 0-1 with a 6.55 ERA against the Astros in four career starts and 0-1 with a 9.20 ERA in three starts at Minute Maid Park.
Urquidy returned from the injured list Sunday after being out since June 30 with a strained right shoulder. He pitched 4.1 innings against the Padres in San Diego and struck out four while allowing two runs, five hits and one walk.
A bonus came in the form of Urquidy’s first career MLB hit.

Seven of Urquidy’s 15 starts this season have been quality ones and the Astros are 10-5 when he pitches. He is 4-1 with a 2.92 ERA in seven home starts but 2-3 with a 4.68 ERA in six starts in day games.
Urquidy is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA in two starts against the Mariners this season. Prior to 2021, he had made only one relief appearance versus Seattle.
Anderson’s Achilles
Two Astros have hit Anderson well. Third baseman Alex Bregman is 3 for 6 with a double and two home runs and first baseman Yuli Gurriel is 3 for 9 with a double and a homer.
Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager is 3 for 8 with a double and a homer off Urquidy.

Mariners-Astros Pick
The Astros lead the season series 11-7, including going 7-2 at home. They also have a commanding 36-11 edge in the series since the start of the 2019 season.
On Tuesday night, Carlos Correa drove in the winning run with a book-rule double to right-center in the 10th inning after Alex Bregman tied the game in the ninth as the Astros rallied over the Mariners 5-4.

Correa scored Yuli Gurriel, who started the inning at second. Bregman had tied it with a two-run home run.
With Urquidy having shaken some rust off in his last start, look for the Astros to beat the Mariners yet again and take a big step toward winning the division title.
The Pick: Astros moneyline (-200)
