Orioles vs Cubs Probable Pitchers

Kyle Gibson (8-3, 3.90) is slated to pitch for the Orioles and face left-hander Justin Steele (6-2, 2.65), who is expected to be activated from the injured list after being out since June 1 with a strained left forearm.

Gibson will be working on five days of rest. Steele will return to the active roster without making any rehab starts in the major leagues.

Gibson is 4-0 with a 2.61 ERA in last five starts and beat the Kansas City Royals last Sunday in Baltimore. He allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings while striking out four and walking none.

Gibson has lost all three career starts versus the Cubs with a 7.53 ERA.

The Orioles have a 9-5 mark when Gibson toes the slab, and he has seven quality starts in 14 appearances. Gibson is 4-1 with a 4.18 ERA in eight starts on the road and has a 2-1 record in days games with a 6.23 ERA in four starts.

Steele was 0-2 with a 4.82 ERA in his last four starts before being placed on the IL. He pitched three scoreless and hitless innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 31 in his last start, striking out one and walking none in a no-decision.

In his only other career start against the Orioles, Steele took the loss last season. He worked six innings and surrendered four runs (three earned).

Steele, whose NL Cy Young Award odds are +5000, has notched eight quality starts in 12 outings this season, but the Cubs are just 6-6 in those games. At Wrigley Field, he is 4-1 with a 2.43 ERA in seven starts while going 3-1 with a 2.06 ERA in eight starts in the daylight.
