Phillies vs Braves Probable Pitchers

Falter is putting together a respectable campaign for the Phils, going 5-3 with a 3.80 ERA in 16 total appearances and 12 starts. In the process, he’s struck out 59 hitters and walked a mere 13 in 68.2 innings. The 25-year-old is proving that he could be a part of Philadelphia’s long-term plans.

September 13th was yet another quality outing for Falter, limiting the Miami Marlins to one earned run and four hits across six innings. In fact, he’s tossed at least six frames in five of his last six starts.

Falter vs Strider

Bailey Falter
VS
Spencer Strider
5-3 Record 10-5
3.80 ERA 2.72
68.2 Innings Pitched 125.2
59 Strikeouts 192
13 BB 41

Strider is the clear frontrunner in NL Rookie of the Year odds, which is no surprise. He’s essentially been the ace of this Braves pitching staff in 2022, compiling a 10-5 record and 2.72 ERA. First, you need to see the numbers. Strider has punched out 192 in only 125.2 innings while walking 41.

Every single time Strider takes the mound, he overpowers hitters. However, he did take the loss in his last outing against the Giants, allowing three runs (two earned) in five innings. He’s absolutely dominated the Phillies this year though, owning a 1.17 ERA in three appearances.

Philly Trucking Along

Before the season began, some people believes the Phillies could be a legitimate World Series contender after adding both Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber. The offense is actually doing just fine, too. Unfortunately, it’s the staff that is failing to be consistent.

Philadelphia is 14th in the Majors with a 3.89 ERA and it also doesn’t help that their ace, Zack Wheeler, is currently on the shelf. He last pitched on August 20th, but Wheeler is expected back soon. As of right now, the Phillies sit in a Wild Card spot but this last month is very important because both the Brewers are putting pressure on them and San Diego.

Braves, Mets Fighting for NL East

Atlanta is right on the heels of the Mets in the division, trailing by only one game as of Saturday evening. The Wild Card is a foregone conclusion if they need it, but the defending World Series champs will be laser-focused on capturing the NL East crown instead.

Brian Snitker’s group has one more three-game set with the Mets at the beginning of October too, which is going to be absolutely huge for their fate. After the Phils leave town, Atlanta gets the lowly Nationals.

Phillies vs Braves Pick

It would be foolish to bet against Strider, especially considering his outstanding ERA against the Phillies. That being said, take the Braves to cover the runline on Sunday.

Pick: Braves -1.5 (-110)
