The Philadelphia Phillies’ bid to repeat as National League champions is alive and well. A thrilling 3-1 Game 4 victory over the top-seeded Braves sent Atlanta packing in the NLDS for the second straight year. Now the Phillies face an Arizona Diamondbacks team that’s yet to lose a game in the 2023 playoffs, despite being underdogs in both the Wild Card and Divisional Series.

Oddsmakers are giving the more-experienced Phillies a significant edge in best-of-seven NLCS odds.

Phillies vs Diamondbacks Recent Head-to-Head

The Phillies managed to just eke out the season series with the Diamondbacks in 2023, going 4-3 overall, including 3-1 on the road. That marked the first time since 2015 that Philadelphia had won the regular-season series against Arizona.

The Diamondbacks won the head-to-head battle every year from 2017 to 2021, while they went 3-3 against each other in 2022.

This season, the Phillies/Diamondbacks games averaged just over 11 runs per contest (11.16 runs per game).

Philadelphia’s Game 4 win over the Braves stretched their home winning streak in the NL playoffs to nine games (dating back to 2022). They did lose two at home to the Houston Astros in the 2022 World Series, but haven’t lost a home game to a National League opponent since 2011. (Missing the playoffs from 2012 to 2021 certainly helped stretch out that statistic.)

The only cause for concern was a late injury to Bryce Harper, who was clutching his surgically-repaired elbow after an eighth-inning collision at first base with Atlanta’s Matt Olson. Harper briefly left the dugout but did return and stayed at first base for the ninth inning.

Philly is getting it done at the plate and on the mound. The Phillies have averaged 5.16 runs scored per game while allowing a measly 1.66 runs against.

The Diamondbacks, of course, are a perfect 5-0 in the 2023 postseason thanks to a two-game sweep of the Brewers in Milwaukee during the NL Wild Card and a three-game sweep of the Dodgers in the NLDS. After going just 41-40 on the road in the regular season, the D-Backs are 4-0 away in they playoffs and have only had the luxury of one home game to date.

Arizona has not only won all five of its playoff games so far, each win has come by multiple runs. The D-Backs have scored at least four runs in every game during the postseason while allowing just two runs in their past four and three in the series-opener with Milwaukee.

The odds for Game 1 of the D-Backs/Phillies series have not been posted yet. Check back with the MLB odds page for the latest postseason lines.
