The National League East-leading New York Mets look to sweep a three-game home series from the Philadelphia Phillies when they meet at 7:08 p.m. ET in Sunday Night Baseball at Citi Field.
The Mets (31-17/15-8 home) beat the Phillies 8-2 on Saturday for their fourth win in their last six games and seventh in their last nine. The Phillies (21-26/10-13 road) have lost four of five.

Odds as of May 28th at Barstool Sportsbook.

In a game that will be televised by ESPN, the Mets are -118 favorites, giving them a 54.13% expected win probability. The World Series odds for New York are +900 and +4000 for Philadelphia.
It should be a beautiful night in Queens as the weather forecast calls for a 72-degree gametime temperature with a low of 64, mostly clear skies and wind from the south at 5-9 mph.
Probable Pitchers
Zack Wheeler (3-3, 3.38) is scheduled to pitch for the Phillies against Chris Bassitt (4-2, 3.91). Wheeler, who has +3000 NL Cy Young odds, will be working on five days of rest and Bassitt on four.
Wheeler vs Bassitt
3-3 | Record | 4-2 |
3.38 | ERA | 3.91 |
2.94 | xERA | 3.51 |
1.15 | WHIP | 1.21 |
5.10 | SO/W | 3.31 |
Wheeler has won his last three starts while compiling a 1.38 ERA to even his season record. Last Monday against the Braves at Atlanta, Wheeler allowed two runs in six innings while scattering eight hits, striking out 10 and walking none.
Wheeler is 4-2 with a 2.58 ERA against the Mets in nine career starts since signing a five-year, $118-million contract with the Phillies as a free agent in the 2019-20 offseason. He has a 21-24 lifetime record at Citi Field and a 4.05 ERA in 64 starts.

In three starts on the road this season, Wheeler has struggled with a 1-1 record and a 7.20 ERA. He is 2-1 with a 1.72 ERA in five starts at night.
The Mets’ Dominic Smith is 8 for 20 against Wheeler, though a double is his only extra base hit. J.D. Davis is 5 for 13 (.385) with two doubles and a home run but Jeff McNeil is just 3 for 21 (.143).
Bassitt has a 7.16 ERA over his last three starts while not figuring in the decision in each. He faced the Giants last Tuesday in San Francisco and was rocked for eight runs and eight hits in 4.1 innings while striking out four and walking three.
In his lone career start against the Phillies, Bassitt got the win May 8 at Philadelphia in the second game of a doubleheader when he surrendered one run in 5.2 innings.
Bassitt is 1-2 with a 4.06 ERA in five starts at Citi Field in 2022. At night, he has a 2-2 record and 4.37 ERA in six starts.
Bassitt’s season highlight, though, may be forgiving an umpire.
Love this. Ump acknowledges he made a mistake and Chris Bassitt forgives him for it. A nice, normal human interaction. pic.twitter.com/jLGGyni7Gr

The Phillis’ Nick Castellanos hits Bassitt well, going 7 for 17 (.412) with three doubles and a homer while Kyle Schwarber is 3 for 6 with a double. Garrett Stubbs is hitless in five at-bats.
Phillies vs Mets Betting Outlook
McNeil hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the fourth inning Saturday night to put the Mets up 4-2 in a game they went on to win 8-2.

Francisco Lindor drove in three runs to extend his RBI streak to a career-best six games. He has driven in 14 runs in that stretch.
Luis Guillorme added three hits for the Mets.
Bryce Harper, Castellanos and J.T. Realmuto each two hits for the Phillies. However, Philadelphia went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo, who is on a 10-game hitting streak, sat out the game with right wrist soreness. He is expected to also miss Sunday’s game after getting an injection.

Phillies vs Mets Prediction
As of late, Wheeler is flashing the form that enabled him to finish second in the NL Cy Young Award balloting last season. Look for him to continue that trend as he loves facing his old team and will help the Phillies avoid from getting swept. Taking the Phillies as a slight underdog is a bonus.
