The Brewers are -255 moneyline favorites, in a contest that features a total of 8 runs. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 pm ET at American Family Field, with 40 degree temperatures and a sun-cloud mix currently in the forecast.

Probable Pitchers

Milwaukee will send right-hander Brandon Woodruff to the mound, while Pittsburgh will counter with righty Mitch Keller.

Woodruff was hit hard in his season debut by the Cubs, but rebounded nicely in his second outing against the Cardinals. The 29-year-old shut out St. Louis over 5 innings en route to a 5-1 victory, scattering just three hits along the way.

He was just 9-10 overall last season, despite sparkling numbers. Woodruff posted a career best 2.56 ERA, a minuscule 0.96 WHIP, and an impressive 4.9 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He’s a top-seven contender in the Cy Young odds, and has owned the hitters in this Pirates lineup.

Woodruff has held the Pirates roster to a .195 batting average over 50 at-bats, allowing more than one hit to only Kevin Newman.

Keller vs Woodruff Stats

Mitch Keller
VS
Brandon Woodruff
0-2 Record 1-1
9.39 ERA 7.27
2.35 WHIP 1.50
.361 OBA .281
1.6 SO/W Ratio 1.0

Keller meanwhile, has carried over his sub-par form from 2021. The 26-year-old has been rocked in both of his starts this season, failing to last longer than 4 innings each time out. He’s surrendered 13 hits and eight runs over 7.2 innings so far, while walking five.

Keller has been a major disappointment in three-plus years of service, and is fresh off posting a 6.17 ERA and 1.79 WHIP in 2021. He yielded a .322 batting average over 23 starts last season, so the fact that hitters are batting .361 against him this year is no surprise.

Keller’s struggles have extended to his appearances against the Brewers as well, as Milwaukee batters are hitting .458 with a 1.000 OPS versus him in 24 at-bats.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs Milwaukee Brewers Betting Analysis

The Brewer bats have been trending in the right direction scoring 17 times in the past three games, and a soft matchup against Keller should keep the good times rolling.

Milwaukee has crushed three home runs, including a grand slam, to start this series and have outscored the Pirates by 15 runs over their past four meetings dating back to last season.

Pittsburgh, who projects for the least amount of victories among NL clubs in the MLB win totals, is ice cold at the dish. They’ve managed just three runs and 12 hits this series, and have scored two or fewer runs in four of five road games this season.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs Milwaukee Brewers Pick

Milwaukee, who got off to a slow start to the season, appears to be rounding into form. They’ve won three straight and six of their past eight overall. They’re a top-seven contender in the World Series odds and are seeking their fifth straight postseason appearance.

Given the advantages Milwaukee owns in both the pitching and hitting categories there’s no need to fade the Brewers on Wednesday, it’s just a question of how you want to bet them. The -255 moneyline is not bettable, so let’s focus on the runline.

Both of Milwaukee’s victories in this series have been by at least two runs, as have each of their past 15 wins against the Pirates dating back to the start of last season. Milwaukee is 13-5 versus Pittsburgh during that stretch, outscoring them by 61 runs.

Pick: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (-125)
