Probable Pitchers

After winning four of his previous five starts, veteran righty Lance Lynn has looked shaky in his last two outings, where he’s lost and got a no-decision.

He got roughed up by the Yankees last start, lasting only five innings, surrendering eight hits and five earned runs, including a home run. Lynn also walked three and struck out four, though the White Sox escaped with a 6-5 win.

Prior to that, he was chased in just four innings by the LA Angels, giving up eight hits and eight earned runs.

Lynn does have a winning mark against LA, though, going 3-2 with a 3.80 ERA in eight career starts, including a 2-1 mark with a 3.82 ERA in six starts at Dodger Stadium.

Lynn vs Gonsolin Stats

Lance Lynn
VS
Tony Gonsolin
4-6 Record 3-1
6.72 ERA 2.21
1.56 WHIP 0.98
.356 OBA .259
2.76 SO/W Ratio 1.88

The White Sox will face right-hander Tony Gonsolin, who will be looking for his fourth win of the campaign. He’s won three times with two no-decisions in his last five starts.

After starting the season on the injured list, Gonsolin will be making his ninth start of the year. If he qualified with enough innings pitched, his 2.21 ERA would rank third in MLB.

It wasn’t a great outing last game against the Reds, as LA lost 9-8. While he didn’t figure in the decision, Gonsolin gave up five hits and three earned runs in five innings, walking three while striking out five.

Gonsolin will face the White Sox for the second time. Last season, he gave up just one run on three hits over six innings in a Dodgers’ 4-1 win in Chicago.

White Sox vs Dodgers Prediction

Both teams had an off day Monday, after taking losses Sunday.

Chicago is coming off a brutal 6-5 L to the Miami Marlins, blowing a 5-1 lead in the eighth inning to drop the rubber match of a three-game set.

Luis Robert Jr did go 2-for-4 with his team-leading 15th home run and a pair of RBI’s. Romy Gonzalez added a double and two runs batted in.

The Dodgers are coming off a 7-3 loss to the Phillies to break the deadlock in their series. Eight LA pitchers surrendered 13 hits and seven earned runs.

Offensively, Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward went yard in the losing effort, as LA dropped 3.5 games back of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West.

The Dodgers have dominated this head-to-head, winning six of the last seven contests, but Chicago has bounced back strong after an off day, as they are a perfect 5-0 in their last five with a day break.

We’ll see how Lynn contends with the Dodger bats, who are third in scoring at 5.6 runs per game, and if he can get enough support. Chicago is 21st in scoring (4.1) and they’ll have to contend with a solid starter in Gonsolin.

In the end, let’s stick to the percentages: the ChiSox are just 8-17 as road ‘dogs, a bottom-5 success rate in the bigs.

Pick: Diamondbacks -1.5 (-133)
