The Pittsburgh Pirates play their home opener when they meet the Chicago White Sox at 4:12 p.m. ET Friday at PNC Park.

The Pirates (4-2, 0-0 home) are coming off a three-game series sweep of the Red Sox in Boston, including a 4-1 win on Wednesday. The White Sox (3-4, 2-2 road) were pounded by the San Francisco Giants 16-6 on Thursday at home for their second loss in the last three games.

Giolito had a no-decision in his first start of the season last Saturday against the Astros in Houston. He worked five innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out six and walking one.

Giolito is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA in four starts against the Pirates in his career. The win was a no-hitter during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season in Chicago.

In day games, Giolito has a 3.83 career ERA as opposed to 4.59 at night. Giolito’s ERA on the road is also more than a full run better than at home – 3.67 to 4.99.

Hill, the oldest player in the major leagues at 43, lost his Pirates’ debut last Saturday against the Reds in Cincinnati. He gave up three runs and three hits over five innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Andrus had two hits, including a two-run double, to provide one of the few highlights for the White Sox in Thursday’s loss to the Giants. Hanser Alberto also had two hits and Tim Anderson drove in two runs.

Third baseman Yoan Moncada sat out with a sore foot but is expected to play Friday. He was injured Wednesday when he fouled a ball off his foot.

Santana hit a solo home run and an RBI double to lead the Pirates past the Red Sox on Wednesday. Andrew McCutchen also had two hits.

Shortstop Oneil Cruz is questionable for Friday after leaving the game with a facial injury. He got hurt when he slid into Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers.
