It’s been an MLB season of disappointment for both the Chicago White Sox (74-70, 39-33 away) and Detroit Tigers (54-89, 30-43 home).

Three games behind the leading Cleveland Guardians, time is running out for the White Sox to defend their AL Central title. At the other end of the spectrum, the Tigers are just two games ahead of the Oakland Athletics in the duel to avoid the ignominy of finishing as the worst team in the American League.

When he has pitched, Tigers right-hander Matt Manning hasn’t pitched all that poorly. He just hasn’t pitched all that often.

Returning to the Detroit’s MLB lineup on August 2, Manning had been out since suffering inflammation in his pitching shoulder on April 16. He’s worked at least five innings in six of eight starts since returning.

Manning is 2-1 over his past four starts, but did surrender a season-high seven earned runs over 2.1 innings pitched in a loss to Seattle. Manning has started against the White Sox five times. He’s 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA.

White Sox vs Tigers Prediction

Manning has allowed two earned runs of fewer in seven of his 10 starts, including the last two.

While Chicago is six games above .500 on the road this season, the White Sox are 7-6 SU over their past 13 away games. However, Detroit has lost five home games in a row and is 1-8 SU over the past nine games at Comerica Park.
