Glover Teixeira’s Betting Outlook vs Blachowicz

Jan Blachowicz had one of the more unusual paths to becoming a UFC champion as he started his UFC career out 2-4 but has gone on an insane run to become the champ. Glover Teixeira, meanwhile, is 41, and this is likely his final UFC title shot as he looks to finally become the champ.

Blachowicz & Teixeira Recent Fights

Blachowicz
VS
Teixeira
Israel Adesanya, win by decision (title fight) Fight 1 Thiago Santos, win by submission
Dominick Reyes, win by KO (title fight) Fight 2 Anthony Smith, win by TKO
Corey Anderson, win by KO Fight 3 Nikita Krylov, win by split decision
Jacare Souza, win by split decision Fight 4 Ion Cutelaba, win by submission

Both Blachowicz and Teixeira are well-rounded which makes this fight interesting. The champ likely is the better striker and has more power while Teixiera has the better jiu-jitsu and durability as he is hard to finish. However, they both have the cardio to go five hard rounds, which makes this a fascinating fight. Blachowicz has even said he’s expecting it to be a war as he knows Teixeira won’t give up since this is his final UFC title shot.

Blachowicz & Teixeira Stats

Blachowicz
VS
Teixeira
38 Age 41
6’2″ Height 6’2″
78″ Reach 76″
6 UFC Finishes 12

The fight will likely be a kickboxing fight early on as that is where both men are comfortable. I do think Blachowicz will hurt Teixeira in the first or second and drop him. We have seen the Brazilian overcome adversity and come back. Once he gets rocked, he will try and take the fight to the ground, and I expect him to have some success. In the end, it will be a back-and-forth fight, but it will be Blachowicz being able to keep it standing for the most part, and eventually, in the fourth or fifth round will get the TKO win.

-300 in the UFC 267 odds is a tough price to lay on the champ, but you could parlay him with another favorite on the main card. A prop I do like in the UFC 267 betting odds is over 2.5 rounds, as well as Blachowicz to win inside the distance.

And Still.

Pick: Jan Blachowicz (-300)

Yan vs Sandhagen Pick & Prediction

Petr Yan is the former bantamweight champion but lost his belt back in March as he was disqualified for an illegal knee against Aljamain Sterling. The two were supposed to rematch on this card, but Sterling wasn’t medically cleared so Cory Sandhagen stepped up on short notice, and the two will fight for the interim title.

Yan & Sandhagen Recent Fights

Yan
VS
Sandhagen
Aljamain Sterling, loss by DQ (title fight) Fight 1 TJ Dillashaw, loss by split decision
Jose Aldo, win by TKO (title fight) Fight 2 Frankie Edgar, win by KO
Urijah Faber, win by KO (title fight) Fight 3 Marlon Moraes, win by TKO
Jimmie Rivera, win by decision Fight 4 Aljamain Sterling, loss by decision

Yan vs Sandhagen has the makings to be the Fight of the Night as both men are dynamic strikers. Sandhagen uses spinning kicks and flying knees to find his KOs, while Yan is a pure boxer and has excellent cardio. I expect Sandhagen to have success early on, but the Russian will start to take over late on the feet and win a decision to become the interim champ. -235 also isn’t a terrible price to pay for Yan in the UFC 267 odds, but you can look at Yan by decision or the over prop to lower the odds.

Pick: Petr Yan (-235)

Other UFC 267 Picks:

  1. Islam Makhachev (-550): Makhachev should be able to control Hooker on the ground to win a decision. -550 is too much to lay straight up, so perhaps he is a parlay piece with Blachowicz.
  2. Alexander Volkov (-290): Volkov will be able to keep this fight standing and piece up Tybura on the feet to win a decision.
  3. Khamzat Chimaev (-435): Chimaev is returning after a battle with COVID-19, and he should be able to take Jinglinag down and get a TKO win via ground and pound.
  4. Magomed Ankalaev (-350): Ankalaev is a bigger favorite than I thought, but an Ankalaev, Yan, Blachowicz parlay could be worth a look. However, he should be able to KO Oezdemir, so the inside the distance prop holds value in the UFC 267 odds.
