The Los Angeles Clippers continue their eight-game road trip on Friday, January 21st as they visit Joel Embiid and the surging Philadelphia 76ers. The tip-off is scheduled for 7pm ET at Wells Fargo Center.
LA is coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, thanks to a game-winning triple from Aaron Gordon. The Sixers meanwhile, just beat the Orlando Magic 123-110 behind a 50-point showing from Joel Embiid.
This is the first meeting between LA and Philly this season, but they both grabbed a win apiece in 2020-21, with the 76ers winning their most recent meeting in April of last year.

Clippers in a Rut
It was always going to be tough for Los Angeles to stay afloat without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Unfortunately, Ty Lue’s squad is feeling the absence of their two best players. On a positive note, they’re hanging in a play-in spot and still have fairly short NBA Playoff odds.
Since PG went on the shelf around Christmas, the Clips have gone only 5-9 during that span. George is also expected to be out a few more weeks with the elbow injury, which means more tough times are ahead.
"The Clippers are going to extend that initial 3-4 week period of rest for Paul George likely for a few more weeks. They want to see how this elbow heals, how it responds to the rest."@wojespn on Clippers' star Paul George.pic.twitter.com/BgjHonTNvT

However, LA did show some fight against Denver the other night, pushing Nikola Jokic and Co. to the absolute brink. Ivica Zubac and Reggie Jackson played out of their minds, combining for 60 points alone, with Zubac dropping a career-high 32 while grabbing 10 rebounds.
It was a very clean performance from the Clippers, shooting over 50% from the field and 38% from downtown. They also committed just 12 turnovers.
Lue’s group really came alive in the second period and went into the half with a 59-47 lead. But, Los Angeles couldn’t keep Jokic at bay, as he erupted for 49 points en route to torching the Clips for a triple-double.
Despite blowing a first-half lead, LA stayed in the game until the end and it took a ridiculous pass from The Joker, who was double-teamed, to set up Gordon for the game-winner in OT.
76ers Finding a Rhythm
It was a lackluster start to the campaign for Philadelphia, but Doc Rivers’ team has responded in a big way as of late. They’re 8-2 in their last 10 contests and collected seven victories in a row through the new year.
Embiid’s play has propelled the Sixers to a 26-18 record, which puts them in fifth place in the always competitive Eastern Conference.
It was truly the Embiid show on Wednesday against the lowly Magic, with the Cameroonian big man balling out for a mind-boggling 50 points in just 27 minutes of action. Aside from his scoring numbers, Embiid collected 12 rebounds and also swatted three shots. That performance can only improve his 2022 NBA MVP odds, where he currently ranks fourth.
Overall though, it wasn’t a great performance from the 76ers rotation, with Tobias Harris’s 21 points and Tyrese Maxey’s 14 about the only other bright spots. However, expect Embiid to have another big night on Friday because he’s averaging 32 points in his previous five appearances against the Clips.

The Sixers are actually playing a lot better on the road this season, going 16-9. At home, they’re barely above .500, posting a 10-9 record. Nevertheless, Philly is playing good basketball over the last few weeks and will be feeling confident against a slumping LA team.

Clippers vs 76ers Prediction
The 76ers are outscoring their opponents by an average of 16 points during this 8-2 run and along the way, they played a couple of very good teams in the Nets and Heat.
I personally don’t think the Clippers are going to have much of a chance here. Follow the NBA betting trends and the public money with Philly to cover.
