If there was any doubt, the Denver Nuggets showed they are very much worthy of a top seed, after whipping the Phoenix Suns in Game 1 of their best-of-7 Round 2 series.
Phoenix, who suffered just their second loss in 14 games with Kevin Durant in the lineup, will try to leave Denver with a split before heading back to the Valley.
Game 2 goes Monday (May 1) at 10pm ET from Ball Arena in Denver, CO. You can watch the game live on TNT.
Suns vs Nuggets Game 2 Odds
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Phoenix Suns | +4.5 (-105) | +155 | O 227 (-110) |
Denver Nuggets | -4.5 (-115) | -180 | U 227 (-110) |
After being favoured by 2.5 points in Game 1, the NBA odds have tacked on a couple more for the Nuggets, who are now 4.5-point favorites and -180 on the money line, an implied win probability of 64.29%.
Phoenix lost the first game of their Round 1 series vs the Clippers, before reeling off four straight. At 17-24 on the road, though, they have the 3rd-worst road record of any team in the West’s NBA Playoff Bracket.
Denver had the 2nd-best home record in the West this year at 34-7.

Nuggets Continuity Dims Suns
While Phoenix is still a work in progress, the Nuggets had the look of a team that’s been in this position before.
Jamal Murray, finally healthy from a knee injury, carried his hot streak over from the Minnesota series to Game 1, pouring in a game-high 34 points, with nine assists, five boards and a pair of steals.

Nikola Jokic didn’t even look like he broke a sweat, adding 24 points, 19 boards and five assists. Denver got a large boost from Aaron Gordon, who had 23 points and six boards, and all five starters scored in double figures.
Denver crushed Phoenix in three-point shooting, outscoring them by 27 points. The Nuggets shot an impressive 16-for-37, a crisp 43.2% clip, while limiting the Suns to 7-for-23, a 30.4% mark.
Kevin Durant led the way for the Suns with 29 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, while Devin Booker added 27, with eight assists and four boards.

KD and Book became the first duo in NBA Playoff history to each score 25+ points in each of the first six games of a single postseason, surpassing Kobe Bryant & Shaquille O’Neal, who did it five straight times in 2003.
However, showing just how thin this roster is after acquiring Durant, Booker’s game would be considered an off-night, especially considering he averaged 37.2 points vs LA on 60+% shooting.
Deandre Ayton, his hands full with Jokic, had just 14 points and seven boards. Chris Paul had 11 points and five dimes. Their core-4 were the only Suns to crack double digits.
KD also coughed it up seven times, and he and Book combined for 10 of the 16 Suns’ turnovers.
Phoenix vs Denver Same-Game Parlay
It was Booker’s sub-30 showing that cost us our last Same-Game parlay, but his bounce back headlines our next 4-leg SGP that pays out at a cool +1000.
Suns vs Nuggets Game 2 Same-Game Parlay
Pick | Odds |
---|---|
Devin Booker 30+ points | -105 |
Aaron Gordon UNDER 14.5 points | -105 |
Nikola Jokic OVER 26.5 points | +110 |
OVER 226.5 points | -110 |
Same-Game Parlay Odds | +1000 |
Gordon’s Game 1 was nice, but the fourth option on Denver’s roster hasn’t cracked 15 points in any other game this series, so we’ll take a chance he reverts back to his usual statline.
As mentioned, Jokic seemed on cruise control, but his urgency should ramp up in Game 2, as getting to Phoenix up 2-0 is significant. Finally, we hit the over last game, and there’s just too much elite shot making, and lackluster defense to think this game goes under in the Mile High City.

Suns vs Nuggets Prediction
Phoenix will need to get in sync, fast, as elite teams — and that darn continuity — have exposed their weakness. They’re currently 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games against teams with a winning percentage above .600.
They’re also 0-4 ATS in their last four head-to-head meetings with the Nuggets. However, Denver is just 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home against the Suns.
Oddsmakers have granted you a gift, as the total has increased by just a half-point from Game 1.
That over has hit in seven of Phoenix’s last nine games, while Denver has hit the over in four of their last five contests.
The over is also 14-8-1 in Suns games when they are road underdogs. Let’s get out of Denver with a W, shall we?
Pick:
- OVER 226.5 points (-110); 1.5 units to win 1.36 units
