The Los Angeles Clippers are surging, having won four of their last five to climb over the .500 mark.

Lakers Betting Outlook

As if a brutal start to the year could get any worse, LeBron James sat out his first game of the year to manage a foot injury, as the Lakers were crushed 139-116 by the Utah Jazz.

That’s the most points the Lakers have given up this season, second only to a 130-116 whopping they took at home to the same Utah team just three days prior – sandwiched in between a 114-100 loss to the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Lakers are now 24th in scoring defense, surrendering 116.3 points per game, though they are in the middle of the pack in field goal and three-point shooting defense.

Unfortunately, they don’t have an offense that can lift them if the D breaks down. LA is putting up just 108.4 points per game, which is 26th in the league, while ranking dead last in three-point shooting at 29.1%.

In James’ absence, Anthony Davis led the way with 29 points, four rebounds and two assists. Surprisingly, about the only good news in this messy Lakers’ start is Russell Westbrook finding his groove as a reserve.

Russ had 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting, while adding five assists and three boards.

James and Anthony Davis (back) are both probable for Wednesday.

Clippers Betting Analysis

After the Jazz snapped the Clips’ three-game fun run, LA got right back to business with a big 119-117 win over the Cavaliers, putting an end to their 8-game win streak.

The Clips rallied from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit and used a late 15-0 run to seal it. Paul George has thrived as the de facto top option, as he finished with a team-high 26 points, to go along with five rebounds and three assists.

All five LA starters scored in double digits, with Marcus Morris Sr dropping 20 points and six boards. Norm Powell was sharp off the bench, finishing with 17 points on 5-for-6 shooting.

Like the Lakers, the Clippers are a bottom-feeding offense. They are the lowest-scoring team in the NBA, putting up just 103.8 points per game. No other team is putting up less than 107.

While they are  top-10 team in field-goal shooting, they have been off by from distance, shooting just 33.3% from three-point range (26th).

Lakers vs Clippers Prediction

The reason the Clippers sit at 6-5 and able to hang tough without Kawhi is because of their defense. They are a top-4 squad in defensive rating, limiting teams to 107.5 points a contest (7th).

This is the second matchup between these two this season, with the Clippers winning 103-97 on October 20. George had 15 points, as six Clippers finished between 11 and 15 points in the win. Leonard missed that game as well.

With Leonard out and the Lakers ailing, this looks like a great time to look at the total — even with the Lakers running an 0-4 record against the spread in their last four.

The Clippers have gone under the total in five of their last six, and the under is 5-0 in their last five following a straight-up win. Let’s keep to that trend.
