What a rapid fall from grace it has been for the Huskies. Most recently, they lost by one point to Seton Hall in a game where they were without head coach Dan Hurley and associate head coach Kimani Young who both tested positive for COVID-19. Both will be back on the sidelines for this one.

Butler have not fared much better of late, going 3-6 in their last nine and are coming off a 73-52 shellacking at the hands of the Creighton Bluejays.

Butler Bulldogs Suffering From Lack of Offense

Not only have Butler been losing, but they’ve been losing in an ugly manner. Their slide started against these same Huskies on December 17th with a 68-46 loss. They have averaged just 53 points per outing in those six defeats.

It is tremendously rare to see a Division I program from an elite conference go through such a terrible drought.

Needless to say, they’ve hit the under in every one of those previous six losses. Attacking the glass with increased fervor would go a long way towards helping the offense. According to KenPom, they are in the bottom 5% in the country in offensive rebounding percentage.

Defensively, the Bulldogs have been quite sound. KenPom ranks them 70th overall in adjusted defensive efficiency. That helps them against middling programs, but without a solution on offense, this side has very little chance to stay relevant in the ultra competitive Big East conference.

UConn Huskies Have Lost Their Bite

Huskies fans were ecstatic at Christmas, as their team was humming along to the tune of a 13-0 record and climbing the table in the odds to win the NCAA tournament. It’s all fallen apart so quickly. Five losses in six games, all to conference opponents, has the once perennial powerhouse doing a reality check.

Enter the Butler Bulldogs, who appear to be the perfect remedy for Connecticut. It would be an upset of epic proportions if the Bulldogs were to beat the Huskies on Sunday. Especially when you consider the beat down UConn laid on them on the road just over a month ago.

It’s a perfect six-pack of victories for UConn when these teams have faced one another. On top of that, the Huskies have also covered the spread in each of those contests with an average margin of victory of 15.7 points.

UConn will be anxious to play a complete game to get back on track. Consider that UConn was once the best college team in the country with an 11-0-1 record against the spread. However, since December 18th, they’ve covered just once in their last eight games.

Butler vs UConn Pick and Prediction

In the last five matchups between these two squads which have occurred over the last two years, Butler have averaged only 52.4 points per game. It’s not like UConn have lit the nets on fire in those contests either, averaging 71 points in those matchups.

Prior to Christmas, Connecticut had scored more than 76 points, nine times in 13 games. Since then, they are 0 for 7 topping that total.

UConn are heavy favorites in the college basketball odds for this one and for good reason. As we established earlier, when Butler lose, they lose big and they don’t score. Instead of picking the struggling Huskies to cover, our prediction is to wager on the under in what will likely be a low event affair.

Pick: Under 137.5 Points (-114)
