Home is where the heart is for the St. Francis Terriers (4-5, 5-3 ATS) so far this season as they have a perfect 4-0 record on their own court, but are winless at 0-5 away from home. That could spell bad news for the Longwood Lancers (5-5, 4-4 ATS) as they roll into Brooklyn for a date with the Terriers.

Regardless, it’s Longwood that are 8.5-point favorites in the college basketball odds for this matchup on Tuesday, December 13th. The action takes place at the Generoso Pope Athletic Complex with tipoff slated for 2:00 pm ET in this afternoon affair.

Longwood Lancers Betting Analysis

Last season, the Lancers won the Big South tournament and earned their first trip to the NCAA tournament as a Division I program. In that 2021-2022 season, Longwood had the best record in the Big South at 15-1 and led over Winthrop wire-to-wire through the entire Big South tournament championship game.

For a program that’s not discussed very often in college basketball circles, Longwood has displayed a fairly efficient offense so far this year. The Lancers average 78.6 points per game and shoot 38.8% from beyond the arc which is good for 33rd in the nation. Pretty impressive for a team ranked 161st in the overall KenPom ratings.

Walyn Napper leads the team in scoring with 10.9 points per game and averages 2.7 rebounds for the Lancers. He’s one of four Longwood players to average double digits in scoring. The squad from Virginia has gotten off to a bit of a slow start this campaign and is anxious to start pouring in buckets and piling up the wins.

St. Francis Terriers Betting Outlook

Good news for St. Francis is that they’re playing at home. The bad news is that this will be their toughest test on their own court so far this season.

While the Lancers have excelled on the offensive end so far, the Terriers are on the other end of the spectrum. They’ve hit the under six of eight times in the college basketball betting odds and only average 64.6 points per game.

2022-23 KenPom College Basketball Rankings

Team Rank Record Adjusted Offensive Efficiency Adjusted Defensive Efficiency
Longwood Lancers 161st 5-5 102.8 (166th) 102.7 (180th)
St. Francis Terriers 346th 4-5 93.7 (338th) 110.4 (330th)

On the defensive side of the ball, forward Josiah Harris averages 1.7 blocks per outing to go along with 8.6 points and 8.7 boards per game. The Terriers have done a good job protecting the paint. With 4.7 blocked shots per game as a team, they rank 44th amongst Division I teams.

Longwood Lancers vs St. Francis Terriers Prediction

Last year, during March Madness, Longwood lost in the first round to a Tennessee team that was a legitimate consideration in the odds to win the NCAA tournament. They want to keep progressing in the right direction, but a slow start has to have coach Griff Aldrich concerned about even making the big dance again.

Other than a three-game win streak in mid-November, it’s been an inconsistent campaign so far for the Lancers. Our pick in the Longwood vs St. Francis odds on Tuesday is for the Lancers to roll over a St. Francis team that is not at the same level.

Of Longwood’s five wins this year, all have come by 16 or more points with the average margin of victory being 31.6 points. We’re not saying it’s going to be that kind of one-sided affair against St. Francis, but our prediction is that Longwood will comfortably roll to victory.

Pick: Longwood Lancers -8.5 (+110)
