Spartans, Demon Deacons Fade
Michigan State and Wake Forest both saw their National Title odds get longer after suffering losses in Week 10. The Spartans fell 40-29 to Purdue, while the Demon Deacons were outlasted 58-55 by North Carolina. Both programs were undefeated entering the weekend.

Michigan State faded from +8000 to +10000 after the game, while Wake Forest moved from +10000 to +20000. The Spartans still have a potential path to the CFP with upcoming games against Ohio State and Penn State. It’s still not a good sign MSU got lit up for over 500 yards by Aidan O’Connell and the Boilermakers passing attack.
Wake Forest, meanwhile, can be ruled out of the CFP conversation after suffering their first loss. The Demon Deacons blew a second-half lead and gave up over 500 yards to the Tar Heels. Dave Clawson’s team was the ACC’s last hope for the playoff, so it appears the CFP will feature no ACC school for the first time ever.

The National Title odds movement highlights the difference between the Big Ten and ACC this season. Wake Forest had to go undefeated to make the CFP, while MSU can still get in with one loss. The Big 10 has been such a gauntlet that any team that emerges from the wreckage with only one loss will receive serious CFP consideration.
Sooners, Wolverines See Odds Improve
Michigan State and Wake Forest losing in Week 10 was Oklahoma and Michigan’s gain in the National Championship odds. The Sooners saw their National Title odds improve from +1800 to +1400 during a bye week, while the Wolverines improved from +8000 to +6000 after beating Indiana.

Oklahoma is one of only four undefeated remaining teams in the nation, so it’s no surprise they saw their Title odds improve. Lincoln Riley’s team came in at No. 8 in the initial CFP rankings, however, indicating there’s still plenty of work to be done. OU needs to run the table against Iowa State, Baylor and Oklahoma State.
Michigan, meanwhile, bounced back from a tough loss to Michigan State with an impressive 29-7 victory over Indiana. Running back Hassan Hawkins had a huge day on the ground with 168 rushing yards, while the Wolverines’ defense held Indiana’s offense to only 195 total yards.

Michigan has better National Championship odds than Michigan State despite MSU owning the head-to-head victory. This tells you oddsmakers think Jim Harbaugh’s team has the better chance of beating Ohio State in the final stretch. The Spartans face the Buckeyes in Week 12, while Michigan gets their shot at OSU in Week 13.
Georgia Pads Lead on Alabama
Georgia has been the National Championship favorite since Week 6, and their lead at the top is only getting larger. The Bulldogs saw their Title odds improve from -110 to -125 (at FanDuel) after blowing out Missouri in Week 10. QB JT Daniels returned from injury in the game, while UGA’s defense held an opponent to under 10 points for the seventh straight contest.

Georgia’s victory was impressive, but the real reason their odds improved was because No. 2 Alabama struggled with LSU in Week 10. The Crimson Tide saw their National Championship odds lengthen from +350 to +450 after winning 20-14 over an injury-depleted Tigers team. Nick Saban’s squad was a heavy 20-point favorite.
There are some major concerns for Alabama following Week 10. The Crimson Tide’s offensive line has been a growing concern, and that weakness was on full display against LSU. Alabama was held to only six rushing yards against the Tigers, as the O-line struggled to open holes for the run game.

Alabama is on a collision course with Georgia in the SEC Championship. The real question is whether the Tide can make the CFP with two losses on their resume. What’s working in their favor is undefeated Cincinnati struggled yet again with an inferior opponent in Week 10. The Bearcats only beat Tulsa 28-20.
No two-loss team has ever made the CFP, but Alabama could make history depending on how the final stretch plays out. The Tide were ranked No.2 by the playoff selection committee, so it’s clear there’s great respect for this program. It’ll be interesting to see what happens if they play UGA tight in Atlanta.
