- The Pittsburgh Steelers have registered double-digit wins in four of the last five years
- The Cleveland Browns haven’t made the playoffs in 21 seasons
- The Green Bay Packers have missed the playoffs two years in a row after eight straight postseason appearances
Now that the NFL Draft is in the rearview mirror and OTA’s have started, online betting sites have posted lines on all 32 teams as to whether they’ll make or miss the playoffs. Let’s take a look at the NFL Playoff odds for the top teams in each conference, and see where there’s value on the board for bets to make and miss the postseason.
AFC Teams Playoff Odds
Team | Odds to Make 2019-20 NFL Playoffs | Odds to Miss Playoffs |
---|---|---|
New England Patriots | -900 | +550 |
Kansas City Chiefs | -450 | +325 |
Indianapolis Colts | -230 | +190 |
Los Angeles Chargers | -230 | +190 |
Cleveland Browns | -135 | +105 |
Pittsburgh Steelers | +100 | -130 |

Steelers Could Be Playoff-Worthy
Of course, the New England Patriots are an absolute lock to make it but if you’re looking for some value, take a look at the Steelers. Yes, they lost Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell this offseason, but take a look at the bigger picture. This team already played a season without Bell and found capable replacements, and they reload at wide receiver unlike any other team.
At wideout, they’ve lost guys like Santonio Holmes, Antwan Randle El, Emmanuel Sanders and Mike Wallace, and they haven’t missed a beat. At running back, James Conner and Jaylen Samuels emerged as quality young runners.
Here’s what the national media won’t talk about. Ben Roethlisberger took JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Conner, Ryan Switzer & other members of the offense out for a boat ride earlier today. Via @JamesConner_ ‘s Instagram. #Steelers pic.twitter.com/g7LwvgVkAw

At the end of the day, the Steelers won nine games last year and that was their lowest in five years. They’re the most consistent team in the division year over year and with Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger back, I’m willing to take a shot at EVEN money.
Bet Against The Browns
There’s no question that the Browns are a team that’s on the rise but making the playoffs could be a big leap for them. Yes, they added Odell Beckham Jr., Kareem Hunt and made a slew of quality moves – there’s no doubting that. At the same time, it’s still a very tough division.
The Steelers will be a winning team, the Baltimore Ravens have won at least eight games in 10 of the last 11 seasons and the Cincinnati Bengals, who were awful, might be slightly better in 2019. The schedule is also tricky with tough home games against Tennessee and the Los Angeles Rams along with three road games at Baltimore, San Francisco and the New York Jets in the first five weeks.

We’re also not sure how good of a head coach Freddie Kitchens is and we’ll already see some (mild) issues with Beckham Jr. skipping voluntary OTA’s, which he probably should be at. This team will improve but I’ll take plus-money on them missing the playoffs.
NFC Teams Playoff Odds
Team | Odds to Make 2019-20 NFL Playoffs | Odds to Miss Playoffs |
---|---|---|
Los Angeles Rams | -350 | +275 |
New Orleans Saints | -350 | +275 |
Philadelphia Eagles | -210 | +170 |
Chicago Bears | -145 | +145 |
Green Bay Packers | -105 | -125 |
Dallas Cowboys | +110 | -140 |
Rodgers, Packers Heading Back To Playoffs?
In the NFC, the team I’d take a flier on to make the playoffs would be the Green Bay Packers. To start, they have one of the best quarterbacks of all-time. Secondly, their offense simply has to be better than last year. The young receivers are a year older, they have a more innovative head coach in Matt LaFleur and they’ll be far more balanced.

On defense, they loaded up in free agency (Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith and Adrian Amos) and in the NFL Draft (Rashan Gary and Darnell Savage).
Beyond all of that, remember that before the wheels came off last year, the Packers lost a slew of games where a play or two could have changed everything. They tied Minnesota and had late-game failures versus the Rams, Patriots, Seahawks and Cardinals. Add it all up and this should be a 10-win team in 2019.
Pass On The Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys did a great job of turning their season around last year but I’m skeptical of the quality of this team overall. Dak Prescott is still a question mark, the offensive line had regressed over the last couple of years and they don’t have many weapons in the passing game beyond Amari Cooper.

The bigger issue is the schedule. They made their run last season by beating up on a number of below average teams. They also feasted on a division that had just one other team with a winning record – the Philadelphia Eagles (9-7).
The Eagles should be strong again, the New York Giants should be improved and the Washington Redskins won’t be a pushover. The Cowboys should be back to their 7-9, 8-8 ways under Jason Garrett. I wouldn’t bet on them making the playoffs.
