Thanks to a COVID-19 outbreak, the Detroit Lions will be going with an interim interim head coach when they play host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday. Several members of the Lions coaching staff are sidelined by COVID, including interim head coach Darrell Bevell.

Wide receivers coach Robert Prince will be serving as the interim interim head coach. Bevell replaced Matt Patricia, who was fired after a Thanksgiving loss to the Houston Texans.

The Lions will be missing both their offensive and defensive coordinators, leaving play-calling in the hands of coaches who’ve never done so at the NFL level. That could bode well for Tampa Bay’s offensive numbers.

The Buccaneers are 9.5-point road favorites for the game with a 1pm EST kickoff. Check out our updated injury reports, as well as other betting options. Let’s start with the lines for player props.

Odds as of December 25

Prop #1: Brady Chews Up Bad Pass Defenses

At 43, clearly Tom Brady has lost a step and a mile or two off his fastball. What he hasn’t lost, though, is the ability to dissect a team that is weak at defending the pass.

Last week, Brady sliced and diced the 31st-ranked Atlanta Falcons for 390 yards. He put 369 yards up through the air against the Las Vegas Raiders (26th in the NFL against the pass).

Detroit ranks 27th in the NFL when it comes to defending the pass. And the Lions will be missing their entire defensive coaching staff.

Evan Rothstein, whose regular job title is “head coach assistant/research & analysis” will be calling Detroit’s defensive plays.

Pick: Tom Brady over 315.5 yards passing (+105), 1 unit.

Prop #2: Brown A Lions Tamer

Last week, Antonio Brown went for 93 yards on five receptions in the win over Atlanta. That’s a season high for the former All-Pro.

He’s feasted on the Lions during his NFL career. In two career starts against Detroit, Brown has averaged six receptions and 108 yards.

Pick: Antonio Brown over 61.5 yards in receptions (-112), 1 unit.

Who Are the Best Bets To Score a Touchdown?

Even though the Lions have only posted five wins, Detroit has scored the game’s first touchdown eight times. Three of those opening TDs were produced by running back D’Andre Swift.

He’s found his groove again of late. Swift has found the end zone three times in the past two games.

Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans owns a team-leading 11 TDs. That’s one shy of his career high.

For the first time this season, he’s gone back-to-back games without scoring. The Lions have a knack for halting opponent’s slumps.

  • D’Andre Swift first touchdown (+1050), 1 unit
  • Mike Evans anytime touchdown (+100), 1 unit
